PARISH and COMMUNITY EVENTS 2

Our Sympathies Rest in peace Ginny Newbold, a member of our parish who recently died. Our sympathies to her husband Sam and their family.

Rest in peace John Wosman, the brother of Fr. Wosman who recently died. Our sympathies to the Wosman fam-ily.

HEALING MASS Monday MARCH 4, 7:00 pm. Heal-ing prayer and Confession available following Mass.

SAR Just FaithMinistry The Just Faith ministry at St. Alban Roe strives to gain and share knowledge and understanding of Catholic so-cial teaching with all parishioners. Catholic social teach-ing is central to our faith and the teachings are derived from the Gospels and the words of Christ, papal state-ments and encyclicals, and bishops’ statements and pas-toral letters. Catholic social teaching calls us all to work for the common good, help build a just society, uphold the dignity of human life, and lift up our poor and vulner-able brothers and sisters. In the coming weeks we will provide short explanations of the seven themes of Catho-lic social teaching, beginning with:

Theme 1. Life and Dignity of the Human Person Every human person is created in the image and likeness of God. Therefore, every person’s life and dignity must be respected and supported from conception through natural death. We believe that the measure of every in-stitution is whether it threatens or enhances the life and dignity of the human person.

As noted above there are many sources for further expla-nation and exploration of this theme. In addition, a book, “Tattoos on the Heart,” by Rev. Gregory Boyle, SJ exem-plifies the worth and dignity of every person. It is avail-able through the St. Louis County Library and on Amazon. Also see Mobilizing the Faithful Workshops, elsewhere in the bulletin, another opportunity to explore the universal call to care for one another.

Intercessory Prayer Network Please pray for the sick and shut-ins:

• Linda Huck recovery from cancer.

STEWARDSHIP: TIME, TALENT and TREASURE Stewardship “A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten

tree bear good fruit.” (Luke 6:43)

Are you using your God-given gifts in the way God in-tended? Do you compare yourself to others and complain about what you don’t have instead of being thankful for what you do have? God gives each of us unique gifts and a unique plan. Listen to how God is calling you to use your gifts, to bear good fruit, for the glory of His name.

Meet in Mikesch Hall at 9:00 am to arrange carpools. Directions will be provided. We will leave church 9:15 am, arrive at museum about 10:00 am, then leave for lunch at 12:00 noon. Mobilizing the

Faithful Workshops Together with our friends at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church along with St. Clare of Assisi parish, we are offering a 2-part Lenten workshop presented by Faith and For the Sake of All. The two distinct sessions on con-secutive Tuesday evenings will focus on issues of race in our St. Louis community and how we as Christians are called to respond. March 19th at St Alban Roe and March 26th at St Martin’s (Clayton Rd just east of Clark-son). On March 19 the focus will be on segregation and housing issues while the March 26 session will deal with inequities in health and well-being. These Mobilizing the Faithful workshops deepen the understanding of and the response to disparities in housing and health between African American and white St. Louisans and fosters dis-cussion about why it matters to all. It accomplishes this through looking at the data in two landmark reports (For the Sake of All and Dismantling the Divide), exploring the universal call to care for one another, and answering the question, "How am I called to respond?" Each workshop will begin at 6:30 pm in the respective church halls and will last approximately 90 minutes followed by some time for reflection and socializing over refreshments.
