WHO IS IT FOR?

This Master’s degree is intented for traditional music artists, either instrumentalists or singers, with no limitation to the cultural area or the repertoire chosen. Who is it for?:

AIMS OF THE COURSE

This Master’s degree aims at developing, enhancing and renewing the cultural and artistic activities of the enrolled students. This diploma will certify their professional skills, equip them with new epistemological and methodological elements and will help them to develop research methods, through the production of a thesis.

This Master’s degree will focus on 3 main lines of research:

• human and social sciences: different modules (history, sociology, ethnology, anthropology, epistemology, music aesthetics etc.) will put in perspective the notions of "cultural features" and of the "elaborative spheres", depending on the schools of thought or the period studied;

• artistic and technical: seminars and a companionship programme will allow the students to grow artistically, from a technical and instrumental aspect, but also guide them in the pursuit of their own artistic research;

• constructing and positioning of the artistic project: the student is invited to build his project through a combined system of lectures, interviews and meetings, visits, workshops and one-to-one teaching.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Duration: 4 semesters made of weekly courses and group meetings, lasting 3 to 4 days and which take place 3 times per semester, either in Brest, Rennes or Nantes.

Some lectures are shared with other Master’s Degrees at the University of Western Brittany. Lectures take place in Brest but can be attented via visioconference in Rennes or for students living too far from those two cities, via a specific application.
