La doctrina de la confesión
Parte 1 La confesión es uno de los genios del catolicismo y uno de los
dones más preciosos de Dios en Cristo Jesús. Es el sacramento
de la reconciliación, la curación y la santificación. Cada pecado que
cometemos ofende y rompe nuestra relación con Dios. Si tal pecado es
cometido por pensamientos, palabras, acción u omisión, también afecta
negativamente a nuestra comunidad y nos deshonra. El pecado hiere y
desfigura la belleza del alma y nos hace menos de lo que somos
creados para ser. Es una caída de la gloria, la gracia o el favor de Dios,
como dice San Pablo: "todos pecaron y están a la altura de la gloria de
Dios" (Rom 3:23).
La confesión es, por lo tanto, el sacramento que nos asegura el
perdón de Dios. Cuando nos peleamos con alguien, deben suceder dos
cosas para que haya reconciliación: 1) reconocimiento de
irregularidades y 2) expresión de perdón. Lo último es muy importante
porque como seres humanos, psicológicamente necesitamos escuchar
que estamos perdonados. Esa necesidad psicológica es lo que hace
que las personas busquen psicólogos y consejeros. Al escuchar que
estamos perdonados, nos asegura que estamos en buenos términos
con el otro. La confesión hace ambas cosas. El sacerdote representa a
Cristo y a la comunidad. Así, por el poder que Dios le ha otorgado y en
nombre de la comunidad, pronuncia perdón al pecador que reconoce
sus pecados y lo restaura a favor de Dios.
En el capítulo 2 de Marcos, los judíos condenaron a Jesús por
atreverse a perdonar el pecado como un ser humano. Argumentaron
que solo Dios tenía la autoridad para perdonar el pecado. Pero Jesús
no se disculpó. Por el contrario, afirma que Dios le ha dado ese poder
como ser humano. “… El Hijo del hombre tiene autoridad en la tierra
para perdonar los pecados”, les dijo (Mc 2, 10). Mientras leemos hoy,
después de su resurrección, él otorga esa autoridad y poder para
perdonar los pecados a sus apóstoles:
Jesús les dijo de nuevo: "La paz sea contigo. Como el Padre
me envió, también yo os envío. Y cuando hubo dicho esto,
sopló sobre ellos y les dijo: "Recibe el Espíritu Santo. Cuyos
pecados que perdonas son perdonados, y cuyos pecados
retienes son retenidos ". Juan 20:21-23
Fíjate que Jesús los respiró de la misma manera que Dios inspiró a
Adán en la creación (Gen 2: 7). Es el acto de Dios de otorgar vida,
poder, autoridad, fuerza y / o el Espíritu Santo. A partir de ese
momento, los apóstoles y sus sucesores tendrán la autoridad y el poder
de perdonar o retener los pecados. El Sacramento de la Reconciliación
es un regalo del amor de Dios. Es el camino por el que volvemos a
Dios.
The Doctrine of Confession Part 1
Confession is one of the geniuses of Catholicism and one of the most precious gifts of God in Christ Jesus. It is the Sacrament of Reconciliation, healing and sanctification. Every sin we commit offends and severes our relationship with God. Whether such a sin is committed by thoughts, words, action or omission, it also affects our community negatively, and dishonors us. Sin wounds and disfigures the beauty of the soul and makes us less than who we are created to be. It is a fall from God’s glory, grace or favor as St. Paul says, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom 3:23). Confession is, therefore, the sacrament that assures us of God’s forgiveness. When we quarrel with someone, two things must happen for there to be reconciliation, 1) acknowledgement of wrongdoing and 2) expression of forgiveness. The latter is very important because as humans, we psychologically need to hear that we are forgiven. That psychological need is what makes people seek psychologists and counselors. Hearing that we are forgiven, assures us that we are back in good terms with the other. Confession does both. The priest represents Christ and the community. Thus by the power vested on him by God and on behalf of the community, he pronounces forgiveness on the sinner who acknowledges his/her sins and restores him/her to God’s favor. In Mark chapter 2, the Jews condemned Jesus for daring to forgive sin as a human being. They argued that it was only God who had the authority to forgive sin. But Jesus did not apologize. On the contrary, he asserts that God has given him that power as a human being. “…the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins”, he said to them (Mk 2:10). As we read today, after his resurrection, he bestows that authority and power to forgive sins on his apostles:
Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained." John 20:21-23
Notice that Jesus breathed on them in the same way that God breathed into Adam at creation (Gen 2:7). It is God’s act of bestowing life, power, authority, strength and/or the Holy Spirit. From thenceforth, the apostles and their successors will have the authority and power to forgive or retain sins. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a gift of God’s love. It is the path through which we return to God.

I can’t believe it but another year of Confirmation has come to a close this weekend. The group of teens who were confirmed on Friday were truly a wonderful group of teens who have grown so much in the past 2 years and were truly confirmed as one family. A huge thank you to our core team who have relentlessly and tirelessly put in so many hours preparing these teens for confirmation. Lastly, thank you to our newly confirmed who are truly going forward to be soldiers for Christ.
No puedo creerlo, pero otro año de confirmación ha llegado a su fin esta semana. El grupo de adolescentes que fueron confirmados el viernes fueron realmente un grupo maravilloso, han crecido tanto en los últimos 2 años y fueron realmente confirmados como una sola familia.
