March 29, 2018 Dear Father Travers, On March 10-11, 2018 AMVETS John R. Tamburri, Jr. Memorial Post 917 was once again granted the privilege of conducting a White Clover Campaign fundraiser on the premises of your parish, The Church of the Holy Child. The campaign was extremely successful and, as always, we are extremely grateful to you and your staff for your support. But the campaign’s success would not be possible were it not for your parishioners whose over-whelming generosity has become a building block of our mission to support veterans and their families. Part of our mission is visiting the wounded soldiers at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD every six weeks. Our visits bring these brave warriors the support, smiles and comfort items that will help pave the way on their long road to recovery. On May 19, 20 and 21, the Staten Island Welcomes Our Heroes (SIWOH) event will take place where members of our organization escort a group of the wounded soldiers from the medical center to Staten Island for a VIP weekend in their honor. All donations made by your generous parishioners will go directly to supporting our visitations and the SIWOH event. Please extend our sincerest gratitude to your congregation for their generosity. We also hope that, on May 19, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., you, your staff, and members of your parish join the crowds on Victory Boulevard from the West Shore Expressway to Travis Avenue to welcome and show support to the wounded troops as the SIWOH motorcade passes by marking the start of the VIP weekend honoring those who have made, and continue to make, enormous sacrifices.
