The National Pushkin Museum traces its history to 1879. In 1997 the president of the Russian Federation issued the Decree, and due to it the museum was pro-claimed an extremely valuable piece of the Russian cultural heritage. The museum possesses a unique collection of iconographical, memorial and historical mate-rials of poet Pushkins epoch, also paintings, graphics, sculpture and pieces of applied art by the prominent artist of the 19th and 20th centuries. It is storage of the Russian history and culture. The National Pushkin Museum comprises 6 museums. Two of them are located in the town of Pushkin (Tsarskoe Selo).

The Derzhavin Estate Museum is a reconstructed city homestead of the 18th century that includes several buildings. Gavrila Derzhavin is an outstanding Russian poet, the pre-decessor of Alexander Pushkin. The Derzhavins mansion central building of the museum survived the centuries. The museum exhibition contains manuscripts, illustra-tions, rare books and periodicals of the 18th century, portraits of Derzhavin and his contemporaries. The Derzhavin Estate Museum is a part of the National Pushkin Museum.
