SST Secondary Prefect Installation 2016 Reported by Nicole Anne (F5M)

Henry Kissinger once said, “The task of the leader is to get their people from where they are to where they have not been."

A frequently asked question is, “What is the role of a prefect?”

Prefects are students who has special duties and helps to control younger students. The role of a prefect is not limited to only one thing, it includes assisting teaching staff, organising ac-tivities, supervising the behaviour of students, maintaining the school’s order and many more.

On Tuesday 1st March 2016, Sekolah Sri Tenby held their Prefect Installation for the year 2016, during the weekly secondary assembly in the MPH (Multi-Purpose Hall).

The installation was led by the Deputy Head of Student Affairs, Puan Saw. She managed to get the students hyped up in guessing who their head and deputy head prefect was for the year.

The moment of truth finally arrived, Puan Saw announced the Head Prefect as Nicole Anne and the Deputy Head Prefect as Lim Cheryl. However those weren’t the only two important roles as three other prefects were also chosen to be leaders of the Prefectorial board in order to form a whole full committee.

Asthajothi was elected as Event Coordinator, Jazzi Koe was elected as Treasurer while Zi Hui was elect-ed as the Secretary.

The newly elected Head Prefect, Nicole Anne then invited all the prefects up on stage to read the prefect pledge.

The pledge read by the prefects is giving the whole school an assurance that they will do their duties earnestly and to the best of their ability. On top of that, they were also promising to set a good example by their good behaviour, honesty and effort which will influence younger children to become helpful school citizens.

Together as a whole prefect board, as a family, we strive to change things around and fix our mistakes in order to become a firm and strong team so that others may look up to us as role models.

U13 Girls Basketball KLISS League

On Thursday Tenby hosted the KLISS U13 Girls Basketball Competition. Our girls got off to

a great start by winning their opening game against Help. Next up was BSKL. In the first half

the girls' confidence grew and they were able to score three baskets without conceding - giving

them a 6-0 lead. Unfortunately for the last five minutes of the second period the rules change

to full court press. This allowed BSKL to use a more aggressive approach in our defending

half and we quickly squandered our lead. Some inexperienced passes lead to our lead being

overturned and BSKL quickly taking the lead. The ball rarely left our defensive half and the

girls ended up losing 10/6. Lessons to be learned in the use of full court press.

Our final game was against Taylor's who had matched our results. They took an early lead but

then our girls dug deep and kicked into action. Some excellent positive drives to the basket

and some well taken lay ups meant that we comfortably won the game finishing second

overall.

Some brilliant performances by individuals. Some lovely team play and all round progress

being made. We will work on the full court press and who knows.... Next time we may bring

the trophy away with us.

U13 Final Boys Basketball KLISS League

Hard luck to our U13 Boys team who lost

their semi-final against a very strong KTJ

team last Thursday. The U13 Boys suffered

two early disappointing defeats but finished

the second half of their season strongly by

getting three wins and also playing

impressive basketball against HELP in their

final game. Up until the final two minutes they

were leading but sadly lost 17-19, giving

them fourth place overall.

Secondary KLISS Athletic Day

KLISS 2016 was held on the 5th of March at NEXUS International School from 08:00 - 13:00hrs. The event was organized by NEXUS

Congratulations to all the students in the Tenby Track and Field Team who competed in the KLISS Athletics Competition on Saturday 5th March 2016, against a field of ten other International Schools. Many of our students won gold, silver, and bronze on the day, a wonderful result achieved!

A special thank you to all PE Staff for their support in preparing the school teams and to all parents for their support on that day.

U18 Boys and Girls Badminton ISAC League Division 1

Our teams enjoyed a hugely successful day at the ISAC Finals Badminton Competition on Sunday 6th March 2016. In the morning, the boys and girls teams reigned supreme on the badminton courts to win the gold and bronze. The girls team won two games and lost two of the four games of five sets played on their way to winning bronze - a fantastic effort considering two of those lost were in the final set 2-3 each! The boys team won five out of five of their games to claim the gold and U18 Division 1 ISAC Champions. Coach Gan said 'From start to finish the whole team gave everything. It was a great team performance, and the quality of play was excellent'. The medals were presented by Mr. Auster. Well done to all of the pupils that attended - it was clear to see the practice they have had in school had paid off. Thank you Mr. Kenny for successful organizing and Coach Gan for preparing the team. Huge work has been done to make it happen.
