The purpose of the following examples in this manual is to demonstrate how NC Cube works as a Microsoft Dynamics NAV Add-on, a solution developed by NAVAX Consulting GmbH.

Dear reader

This manual is founded on work experience gathered over more than 15 years with Microsoft Dynamics NVA (formerly Navision) and should give you a good view over the functionalities of NC Cube. However, it is not intended to provide you with a detailed insight into all relations and queries that can be used in the NC Cube. You should begin with simple queries and increase your knowledge step by step. It might take some time, but it is also fun to create your own reports in such an easy way. This manual is intended for users who would like to generate reports and queries on their own. Users should have basic knowledge and experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV to achieve quick results. However, beginners without experience can also work with this reporting add-on software, as NC Cube helps users by automatically showing the necessary relations.

Overview

NC Cube has been developed so that data from Microsoft Dynamics NAV can be readout in a Microsoft Office Excel 2003, 2007 or 2010 file as a Pivot Table with out any need for an SQL server or additional software. We would like to present to you a very easy tool. When creating your queries you will not need a developer or a consultant, nor will you need to make any technical installations or adjustments. In the next chapter we will describe more functionality and features of NCCube.

In NAV 2009 RTC you will receive an error message if the Microsoft Excel File is larger than 5 MB. The setting for the maximum size of a file can be changed in the CustomSettings.config. You can find the file in the folder c:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\60\Service on the server. In the file CustomSettings.config locate the point “MaxUploadSize” and increase the value as you want.

Save the file CustomSettings.config and restart the Microsoft Dynamics NAV service. An explanation relating to this parameter from Microsoft is available here. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd355055.aspx

Installation and license

To install NC Cube you only need to go through a few steps in the Object Designer. Object merge is not necessary. Please be aware that in Microsoft Dynamics NAV Version 4.00 or higher there are only 10 menu suites available. To complete the import you need to use a menu suite that is not used by another add-on. NAVAX will provide you with an additional menu suite 10 for NC Cube. If you already have an add-on that uses menu suite 10, please send an email to Lizenz@navax.at with the menu suite number you need (1 to 9). You can tell whether the menu suite is free for use by NCCube by the following message:

Installation steps for NCCube for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.00 or higher 1) Make a backup of the database.

2) Open Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

3) Check whether your Microsoft Dynamics NAV license includes the NC Cube license. To

check please follow these instructions:

In the Main Menu, click Tools, License Information

The License Information window appears on your screen and shows the license for all the modules in your application.

NC Cube module 1.022.110 doesn’t require a special license type, such as Business Essentials Edition, Advanced Management Edition, or other components. NC Cube is available in all licenses for any component.

Scroll down to check if the license for NCCube (Module 1.022.110 NC Cube) is also available.

If yes, please follow the further instructions in this chapter. Otherwise contact your administrator or send an email to Lizenz@navax.at. Click ESC to close the License Information window.

In the Main Menu, click Tools, Object Designer.

Select the folder where the NC Cube objects are saved, select the file

NCC614_NAV601WW.fob and then click Open.

The following message will appear.

Click YES to confirm. When you have completed the import procedure, Microsoft Dynamics NAV will display a confirmation message.

Please restart Microsoft Dynamics NAV. In the Navigation Pane you will now find a new panel named NC Cube.

If you now wish to import all available cubes (provided together with NC Cube) please go to chapter Import NC Cube. Select the NC Cube navigation panel. The following menu items appear:

Installation of the roles

This section is optional, but it should help you with the setup of the roles for NC Cube. To create the user role for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 3.70 to 2009 SP1 run Codeunit “1022100” from the “Object Designer” window. The following role will created: NCCUBE-EDIT and NCCUBE-MYNCCUBES NCCUBE-EDIT – this role is the SUPER–USER for NC Cube and has every authorisation. It can create and delete Cubes, etc. NCCUBE-MYNCCUBES – This role can only use the My NC Cubes window. This role can edit the MyCubes card and you can use it to add Cubes to the MyCubes card. However, with this role you can only see the Cubes that all users can use, or where his User-ID is entered in the table “Selected Users”.

Uninstall for NC Cube for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 3.70 or higher

1) Make a backup of the database

2) Click on the Microsoft Dynamics NAV navigation pane and select NC Cube, then select

NC Cubes– the form NC Cube Card is now open.

3) Delete all Cubes from the database in any company

4) In the Main Menu, click Tools, Object Designer.

5) Delete the following objects in the table below from your database and the right MenuSuite from NC Cube.

The local Microsoft Dynamics NAV partner may charge the customer separately for this additional installation. Please ask your local Microsoft Dynamics NAV partner about this service. The following image shows the Form 1.022.120 from Microsoft Dynamics NAV 3.70.

After installation to a Microsoft Dynamics NAV 6.0 customer database, the menu points are not provided automatically in the Role Tailored Client (RTC). To add the menu points to a role center, proceed as follows: 1. Click in the command bar and select Customize Navigation Pane….

2. The Customize Navigation Pane page appears.

3. Click the Add button

5. Select the point NC Cube to expand the menu point.

6. Select the menu point NC Cubes and then click OK to close the Add List page.

7. You are back in the Customize Navigation Pane page.
