Scenario

•Free version of programs are being offered in the net which perform similar tasks to those in Microsoft

office thus people would want to download the ones from the internet rather than buy them.

•In the world of business people depend on Microsoft office suites thus if there are free versions of these

programs available on the net that perform the same tasks as those available in the package.

Stakeholders

The stakeholders are: the Microsoft suites that depend on business marketing in order to

earn their share but if similar programs like those in their package are available on the

net they are then used in business and personal pcs thus become more popular and

widely used.

Social and Ethical issues

• People becoming more dependant on free versions of programs available on net

• The programs that we download from the net can carry viruses or unwanted information

• Kazaa they always give out free programs to download, we download even if we don’t want

to- we have to use what the society around us is using

• School community- We need to use the same software suites/packages that are applicable for academic purposes. If we use another program at home to work on a task and if the school uses another program say for example Microsoft, thus the student may not be able to open the file.

Main problem

• The main problem here is that if we have free programs to be put in use through the net, this will have bad effects on the company and their business marketing.

-The Open Source Software is helpful since it helps software designers to build up on the work of others recompiling and modifying the work.

-Although the actual cost of software is more than its initial price, the fact that Open Source Software is freely available

-freely upgradeable, along with other characteristics have led to

-its recent popularity 

Solutions

• -Use the same software packages in a society, example, at home and at school

• -Download anti-virus software's thus if we download a program such as spreadsheet from the internet and if it contains viruse’s it can be dealt with by these softwares
