united by Jesus in the Eucharist. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we love and

serve God in how we live and in who we are as sisters and brothers in Christ.

January 17, 2016 St. Alphonsus Church & School Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

New Year — Projects Update A er spending the past year looking at improvements needed

on our church property, ge ng advice from parishioners in the construc on trade, figuring out how to pay for the work,

and then ge ng bids, we are star ng 2016 with this Capital Improvements Plan:

• New Roof on New Side. Jadco Construc on Inc. will replace the leaking roof during the spring. Cost: $36,000—Capital Campaign funds.

• Electronic Bell System. McShane Bell Foundry will install this system, which puts less wear and tear on our historic bells, in January or February with comple on (hopefully)by Easter. Cost: $18,500—Capital Campaign funds.

• Stained Glass Repairs. Window repair work on the New Side and Old Side will start in January and be completed (hopefully) by Easter by Hunt Stained Glass Studio. Cost: $13,800—Capital Campaign funds. (This work does not include bell tower windows; we requested a quote.)

• New Awning Over “Old Gym” Entrance. This will be installed by Thomas V. Giel Garage Doors within the next two months (weather permi ng). Cost: $1,600—Parish Share funds.

• New Boiler Room Door — Already installed! An insulated steel door with panic hardware was installed in December by Thomas V. Giel Garage Doors to correct an unsafe situa on. The previous door had to be padlocked from the outside because there was no way to lock it on the inside. Cost: $2,600—Parish Share funds.

• Boiler Repair & Piping Replaced — SSM Industries is in the process of repairing the boiler on the New Side and has replaced 60 feet of piping connected to the Old Side furnace because the pipes were leaking.

• Future — During 2016, we will con nue to look at more property and plant improvements, including paving our parking lot, repairing retaining walls, and fixing doors throughout the property.

Carl Pieczynski, who handles maintenance for the parish, is coordina ng the work with all of the contractors. Carl and Bob Parry, who also works on our maintenance staff, have worked diligently over the past year to make repairs and improvements throughout the St. Alphonsus campus.

Special thanks goes out to a number of people who have donated their me and talent to improve our property. To name a few … Bob Paolini (a jack –of-all-trades), Rick Wi mer and Ed Ley (electrical and ligh ng work), Tim Wessel (landscaping improvements throughout the grounds including the cemetery), and Tiffany Martha (who organized a group to beau fy our grounds).
