SPRING 2020
Ira served our country for 12 years in the United States Army. He never expected to end up homeless.
But sadly, like nearly 40,000 other homeless veterans, Ira struggled after he left military service. He lost himself in drugs and alcohol.
“I was on the street for about a year and a half,” Ira says. Desperate for help, he made plans to board a bus for Charleston, South Carolina in

WALK A MILE IN MY SHOESA light dusting of snow welcomed the 16th
Annual Walk A Mile In My Shoes on February 8, as a wave of nearly 2000 walkers trekked from the historic Muncie Fieldhouse to the Mission. New this year, several walkers carried a pair of red shoes, tagged to remind them of the men, women, and families served by their support.

104 teams from local churches, schools, businesses, and families registered
Over $1 million raised over the 16-year history of Walk A Mile!

hopes of a job offer there. But at the last minute, Ira bought a ticket for Muncie, Indiana instead—back to his hometown.
“In that moment, my decision to come to Muncie surprised me,” says Ira. “Now I know that God was directing me here for a purpose.”
In Muncie, with money quickly running out, Ira found his way to Muncie Mission Ministries where he
was welcomed warmly with good meals and a safe place to stay.
“I expected to stay in the shelter for a few days while I tried to find work,” says Ira. “I went to the chapel services and decided to keep staying. I found a Bible and would stay up reading it every night.”
Over the next year at the Mission, Ira sensed God confirming His presence in multiple ways. In our recovery program, Ira found the hope, sobriety and new life in Christ he’s longed for.
Today, Ira has joined our staff to launch new efforts that help homeless veterans as they transition to permanent housing.
For the first time, Muncie Mission is partnering with the Department of Veterans Affairs, creating a designated 6-bed dorm where homeless veterans can stay for 90-days (or longer, if needed).
Ira is excited to serve as a liaison for homeless veterans, guiding them to resources for employment and long-term housing. Most of all, he’s glad to share with them his own story of redemption.
“I owe my life to the love that our Heavenly Father has for us,” says Ira. “Thank you for giving people like me a second chance.”

With your help today, our doors will always be open to neighbors in need.www.MuncieMission.org/Donate/Online
In 2020, the Muncie Mission is celebrating an incredible 90 years of compassionate care to the lost and broken in our community.
Throughout our history our services have focused on bringing the gospel to our poorest and most desperate neighbors. Today, we continue to be the hands and feet of Christ to all who find their way to our doors, PLUS we are excited to be continually adding new pathways to help those in need pursue a flourishing life.
In 2016, we launched transitional housing as an additional option for men who needed a safe stepping stone on their return to community life. In 2018, we took on Beauty for Ashes as an additional ministry to provide much-needed transitional housing for women. Now, in 2020, we are widening our door again with the creation of a designated dormitory to provide shelter for our homeless military veterans.
Since Rev Eddie Thomas first opened the doors in 1930, the Mission has been able to reach those in need only through our community’s generous support.
Thank you for your faithful partnership with this ministry! We are excited to see what God has planned for you and the Muncie Mission for the next 90 years!
The hungry have been fed, the homeless
have found shelter, those battling addiction
have found hope, and ALL have received
the Good News because you cared enough
to share your love.
