People’s lives depend on your safe installation of our products. It is important to follow all instruc-tions shipped with the products. This device is to be installed by a trained electrician who is thor-oughly familiar with the National Electrical Code and will follow the NEC Guidelines as well as local codes.The selection of the mounting location for the device, its controls and the routing of the wiring is to be accomplished under the direction of the Facilities Engineer and the Safety Engineer. In addition, listed below are some other important safety instructions and precautions you should follow:

• Readandunderstandallinstructionsbeforeinstallingoroperatingthisequipment.

• Failuretofollowallsafetyprecautionsandinstructionsmayresultinpropertydamageorseri-ous injury to you or others.

• Thisunitshouldbeinstalledbyaqualifiedelectricianinaccordancewithlocalelectricalandfirecodes.

• Iftheunitisnotinstalledinasupervisorysystem,itmustbetestedatregularintervals.Refertolocalfirecodesforthisinformation.

• Afterinstallation,testthelightsystemtoensurethatitisoperatingproperly.

• Aftertestingiscomplete,provideacopyofthisinstructionsheettoalloperatingandservicingpersonnel.

• Disconnectpowerbeforeanyinstallationsaremade.

• Establishaproceduretoroutinelycheckthelightsystemforproperactivationandoperation.

• Anymaintenancetothelightsystemmustbeperformedbyatrainedelectricianinaccordancewith NEC Guidelines and local codes.

• Thenameplate,whichmaycontaincautionaryorotherinformationofimportancetomainte-nance personnel, should NOT be obscured in any way. Ensure that the nameplate remains read-able when the housing’s exterior is painted.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR STROBE LIGHT ON HORNS AND SPEAKERS

A. Introduction.This sheet provides the user with instructions for the installation of Strobe Warning Lights on hornsandspeakers.Allinstructionsassumethatmountingprovisionshavebeencompletedandelectrical power has been routed to the installation site.Thewarninglightcanbeweatherproofedbyinstallingthesuppliedgasket(refertoparagraphE).Alsotheaudiblesignaloradapterplateshouldbeweatherproofedbyusingtheproperelec-trical box.

wARNINGHigh voltages may be present inside the light assembly even though power is not connected. Ifaccesstothecomponentboardisrequired(removalorreplacement),thecapacitormustbedischargedbytouchingawiretobothendsofthestrobetube.Donotattempttotouchor

move the assembly until the capacitor has been discharged.

Insertbushing(supplied)intoadapterplate.RoutepowerleadsthroughtheslotintheBCLorSFLAdaptorPlate,asshowninFigure1.Snapthefrontcoverofthelightoff.RoutepowerleadsthroughboardassemblyasshowninFigure2.Connectthepowerleadstotheterminals of the two position connector by inserting the stripped ends of the wire into the connectorasfarastheycantravel,polarityMUSTbeobservedonDCunits.Makesuresupplyleadinsulationisflushwithconnector.Ifstrandedwireisused,besurethatthereare no loose strands outside the connector plug that could touch the adjacent lead and cause ashortcircuit.Replacecoveronlight,lensshouldsnapontoboardassembly.

2. Attachthelighttotheadapterplate,usingtwoofthe8-32screwsandnutssupplied.3. Attachtheadapterplatetothe4-inchelectricalboxwithtwo8-32screws.

1. Turnoffpowertothehornanddetachthehornfromitsmountinglocationbyremovingtheslottedscrews.Disconnectallelectricalconnectionstothehorn.

2. SeeFigure3A.Usingasmallblunttool,suchasapinpunch,knockouttheslotinthehornhousingfromtherear.Figure3Ashowsthemechanismremovedfromthehorn,forclarity.DONOTremovethemechanismbeforeknockingouttheslot.

3. Insertthesuppliednylonbushingintotheslotfromthefrontofthehorn,asindicatedinFigure3B.

NOTEIn order to properly seat the bushing, excess burrs must be removed from the slot area.

4. RemovethetwoPhillipsheadscrewsfromthecornersofthehorn.Retainthescrews.5. Routepowerleadsthroughthehornandthroughthenylonbushing.Snapthefrontcoverof

6. Ifthehornistobeflushmounted,attachtheaccessoryplateatthistime.Positionthelightso that the wires are directly over the nylon bushing and the wires will not be visible after thelightisattached.Attachthelighttothehorn,usingthetwoscrewsthatwereremovedinstep4.

7. ConnectthelightleadsfollowingthediagraminFigure4.Insulateallsplices.

1. RemovethetwoPhillips-headscrewsfromthefrontofthespeaker.Retainthescrews.

2. SeeFigure5.Usingasmallpinpunchorsimilarblunttool,knockouthole“B”fromtherearofthespeaker,ifatwowirelightisbeinginstalled.Ifafourwirelightisbeinginstalled,knockoutbothholes“A”and“B”fromtherearofthespeaker.Ifthespeakerishousedinametalenclosure,usearoundfiletoremoveanyburrsthatmaybepresent.Figure5showsabasic4-inchspeakerenclosurecontainingnopartsotherthanthespeaker.However,some4-inchspeakerunitsdoincludecomponentsinadditiontothespeaker.DONOTremoveanypartsbeforeknockingouttheholesindicatedinFigure5.

3. Routepowerleadsthroughthehornandoutofknockouthole“B”,seeFigure5.Snapthefrontcoverofthelightoff.RoutepowerleadsthroughboardassemblyasshowninFigure6. Connect the power leads to the terminals of the two position connector by inserting the strippedendsofthewireintotheconnectorasfarastheycantravel,polarityMUSTbeobservedonDCunits.Makesuresupplyleadinsulationisflushwithconnector.Ifstrandedwire is used, be sure that there are no loose strands outside the connector plug that could touchtheadjacentleadandcauseashortcircuit.Replacecoveronlight,lensshouldsnaponto board assembly.

4. SeeFigure7.Connecttheleadstothepowersource.PolarityonACunitsdoesnotmatter.Insulate all splices.

E. Installation of Gasket.

Thelightcanbeweatherproofedbyinstallingthesuppliedgasketandmountingonaweather-proofhorn/speaker,orbyusingtheBCLplatetomountthestrobeonaWBbackbox.Slotsareprovidedinthegasketwhichallowthelightwirestopasstotheaudibledevice.

Theslotscanbelocatedbygentlypullingonthegasketneartheapplicableslots(seeFigure8).Notethattherearefourslotsintheupper-centerofthegasket.Theseslotsshouldbeusedwhenthe light is to be installed on a horn or mounting plate. To install, merely run the light wires throughtheapplicableslotsandseatthegasketfirmlyonthelight(seeFigure8).

Refertothepreviouslydescribedapplicableinstallationinstructions.

F. Strobe Tube Replacement.Disconnectpowerfromtheelectricalcircuit.Waitfive(5)minutesbeforeremovinglens.Re-move the screws fastening lens to mounting surface. Snap lens off of mounting plate. Carefully remove the burnt out strobe tube, it is best to lift from both sides at once.

Replacethenewtubemakingsureallthreepinsentertheboardconnectorsapplyingpressureslowlytoendsoftube,preferablytheouterleads.Placetheouterlensbackintoposition,rein-stall referring to appropriate previous installation instruction as necessary.

F. Remplacement du Tube Stroboscopique.Déconnectezl’alimentationducircuitélectrique.Attendez5minutesavantderetirerl’écran.Retirezlesvisfixantl’écranàlasurfacedemontage.Décrochezl’écrandelaplaquedemon-tage.Remettezsoigneusementletubeclaqué;ilestpréférabledeleverparlesdeuxcôtésàlafois.Mettezenplacelenouveautubeens’assurantquelestroisbrochesentrentdanslesconnecteursdecarteenappuyantdoucementsurlesextrémitésdutube,depréférencesurlescâblesextérieurs.Remettezenplacel’écranextérieur,réinstallezenseréférantsinécessaireauxinstructionsd’installationappropriéesprécédentes.
