The study
• MENE provides the most comprehensive dataset yet available on people’s use and enjoyment of the natural environment.
• It provides comprehensive information on visits to the natural environment as well as other ways of enjoying the natural environment such as gardening, watching wildlife and volunteering.
Data and presentation
• 48,514 adults resident in England were interviewed between March 2009 to February 2010.
• Large sample size is the ability to analyse the data at a sub-national level.
• This report contains the findings of an analysis of three groups:– Residents of the Thames Gateway area – survey respondents who
live in this area – a sample size of 2,518 respondents.– ‘Destination Thames Gateway’ - survey respondents who had taken
visits to the natural environment within the Thames Gateway area in the seven days prior to interview – a sample size of 331 respondents.
– ‘Origin Thames Gateway’ - survey respondents who had taken a visit to the natural environment in the seven days prior to interview which started from a place within the Thames Gateway area – a sample size of 661 respondents.
