MORRIS CHAPEL UMC Chapel Echoes Newsletter July 13, 2015
A Message from Samantha Wesley
As I was leading the commissioning of our two youth mission teams last Sunday, I had two epiphanies
that I would like to share with all of you.
The first epiphany was how awesome it is to see so many young people and adults take the time out of
their summer and go and serve.
The second epiphany I had was as Methodists, we sure do use a lot of acronyms! This made me think
of writing some of them down…so here we go… I know there are many others but this is a start!
FLC: Family Life Center
FH: Fellowship Hall
GVT: Gethsemane Vision Team
CC: Church Council or Children’s Council or Children’s Church
CCC: Carolina Cross Connection
MCUMC: Morris Chapel United Methodist Church
MC Kids: Morris Chapel Kids
MO Chap Youth: Morris Chapel Youth
UMW: United Methodist Women
UMM: United Methodist Men
YTD: Year to date
VBS: Vacation Bible School
SPRC: Staff Parish Relations Committee
SS: Sunday School
BBQ: Bar-b-Que
JAM: Jesus and Me
1 Corinthians 12:26-27, “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part
rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”
I believe that no matter what acronym we use or abbreviation, the one thing we should know for sure is,
that we are ALL, each of us individually or a group or as a team is part of the body of Christ. This is my
third epiphany and how cool is that!
Grace, peace and love,
Sam

Feel free to use this prayer itinerary to help you pray for our team and the people we will serve. Youth Music News

worship can be enhanced by the addition of all of the worship arts—vocal and instrumental music, readings,
drama, interpretative dance, and the visual arts.
• See the announcement below about the 2 new singing groups getting started—youth are invited to participate
in one or both of these new groups.
Adult Music News
• The adult Chancel Choir meets every Wednesday from 7:15 to 8:30 pm in the choir room. We are presently
working on general anthems for the summer and fall, though I’m already previewing new Christmas music,
which the choir will begin work on in the fall.
• Any past/present/future choir members or folks who just like to sing that would be interested in attending
Choir Weekend at Lake Junaluska on October 16th to 18th, 2015, please contact Del—see the following

Handbell Ministry
• Calling all ding-a-lings. Be watching for more information on our handbell workshop this fall, open
to all who are interested in being involved in a handbell group ministry.
Miscellaneous
Anyone wishing to participate in worship by presenting a vocal or instrumental solo or small ensemble piece in the
coming weeks/months at one or more of the worship services, please contact Del—others are always encouraged
to participate/lead musically in worship, even if unable to commit to a group that meets regularly. I am happy to
help you with music, practice, accompaniment tracks, etc. The “Gathering Music” time before the 1100 service is
a particularly excellent opportunity for young musicians to participate in leading worship in a relatively low-stress
