Library News

Book week this year will be celebrated at Moruya Public School on the 22 of August. Book Week is the longest running children's festival in Australia, celebrating its 73rd birthday in 2018. Each year, many schools and public libraries from all over Australia, spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians develop activities, offer competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading.

The theme in 2018 is…….. “Find Your Treasure”

During the next few weeks in the library we will be looking at the short-listed Book Week books and will be enjoying stories and artwork around this theme.

On WEDNESDAY 22 August at 12pm on the blacktop playground, in front of the Infants classrooms, we will be having a book week character parade. This means the students can come to school dressed as a book character of some sort. Perhaps a pirate in keeping with the treasure theme, though any dress up character is ok. We look forward to seeing everyone dressed up on that day and please feel free to come along at 12pm on Wednesday 22 August to help us join in the fun.

Thank you from the library Rose Hawke

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM THIS WEEK

PEER SUPPORT

Congratulations to our Year 6 Peer Support Leaders on their great start to peer support this year!

How does the Peer Support Program work?

Trained Year 6 students facilitate activities with small groups of younger students. A teacher supervises each group which includes: two Year 6 leaders and 8-10 students from Kindergarten to Year 5.

Week 2

During Peer Support this week the children will look at the notion that what they choose to spend their time on reflects the values they have. The activities will also assist them in identifying ways they care for themselves and others, developing their understanding that you are caring when you notice the feelings and needs of yourself and others.

During the week encourage your child to demonstrate they are caring by doing something helpful or displaying kindness around the home.

Some of our awesome Peer Support Leaders

Softball Report

On the 16 August the girls softball team went to Bermagui to compete in the softball knockout game. First we came to school and Mr Taylor went running around to find our shirts then we got the softball kit and walked down to the gate while Mr Taylor went and got the courtesy bus from the golf club. Everyone went and got in the bus. On the way there we were singing and making up a team name and we all decided on Smurfettes and Mr Taylor was Papa Smurf. When we got there we went in to the office and found our way to the oval where we played. Moruya Public School fielded first. Before we fielded we did some practice throws and catches. And then we started to play we got someone out. Then it was our turn to bat and Lena went first and did a really good hit so she got to second base. In the end we got 24 home runs and Bermagui got 12 so we WON!!! By Lilly-G and Jayde
