For the month of October, the following athletes were nominated for Athlete of the Month: Markus Wong (Sr Boys Volleyball - Grade 12), Pouria Maghali (Sr Boys Soccer - Grade 12), Simon Russo (Jr Boys Volleyball - Grade 10), Christina Nieh (Sr Girls Volleyball - Grade 12), & Edward Colhoun (Cross-Country - Grade 12). Congratulations to Markus Wong for being awarded as the Athlete of the Month for October!! There is no doubt Markus can play volleyball at a high level, but a well-deserved nominated athlete also displays leadership within the team and his commitment to the team. As the captain of the team, he was able to steer the team to many successes during challenging moments. For example, at the finals game at Burnaby North invitational tournament, with both teams alternating side out on each game point; he was able to keep the team focused and calm to fight for every point until victory. There were a few occasions where he would train with a varsity team but still commits his time to attend to my practices afterwards. And to display his dedication to his school team, near the end of the season he stopped attending to varsity practice and focused his time on his senior team. Markus is a humble athlete. He is committed to helping the team to do well and train upcoming athletes. He respects all coaches' decisions and openly provide feedback on how to make the team better. An outstanding athlete and a pleasure for coaches to have him on the team. Markus now needs to see Mr. Spracklin in the PE Office to claim his t-shirt, Sport Chek gift card, and have his photo taken for the awards cabinet in the foyer. TEXTBOOK CHECK NEXT WEEK.
