..................................................................... Could This Be Another "Snippy"?

Mrs. E r i c Bluhm, an a r t i s t and j o u r n a l i s t , of F t . Wayne, Ind. , is quick t o no te t h e unusual a s a r e s u l t of h e r t r a i n i n g , and we have t h i s r e p o r t which could be ano the r Snippy case.

M r . and Mrs. Bluhm were vaca t ion ing i n t h e west i n August, t h i s year , and on Sunday, t h e 1 3 t h were en an a l l day jeep t r i p wi th o the r8 i n Canyon de Chel ly . The i r guide was a Navajo Ind ian named Johnny. On t h e way up t o t h e end of Ganyon de Muerte, where t h e y were t o have a box lunch , t h e y saw a dead donkey l y i n g i n t h e sand. Mrs. Blumn a t once no t i ced t h e exac t s t r i p 8 o r 9 inches wide, c u t from t h e donkey's neck about where P hor se c o l i a r would r e s t . The s t r i p was a s even a s i f it had been c u t by a b u t c h e r a n d l j f t e d from t h e neck. No one e l s e seemed t o f i n d t h i s odd , b u t M r s . B l u h m immediately thought of "Snippy" and w i t h good reason. The donkey was b l o a t e d but Mrs. B l u h m could not ven tu re a guess a s t o how long i t had been dead.

During t h e lunch break she asked Johnny about t h e donkey. He shrugged and s a i d perhaps t h e a n i n a l had caught i t s e l f on some barbed wi re - - th i s i n s p i t e of t h e f a c t M r . Bluhm had seen no barbed wire i n t h e e n t i r e a rea . She asked Johnny i f he had eve r aeen any UFOs and he s a i d he had seen " s i l v e r round th ings" sometimes f l y i n g above him when he was down i n t h e canyons. Asked what he thought they were "he merely shrugged aga in i n t y p i c a l I n d i a n f a s h i o n n and s a i d no more. A woman i n t h e p a r t y t o l d Mrs.Bluhm l a t e r t h a t Johnny's mother had r epo r t ed s e e i n g UFOs over . t h e canyons a t l e a s t twice t h a t she knew of .

A l l t h e farms i n t h e canyon a r e a were I n d i a n farms and lulrs. Bluhm s a y s t h e i r ho r se s a r e w e l l groomed and t h e sheep w e l l tended. A l l seem . t o c a r e f o r t h e i r farm animals and t r e a t them k i n d l y , and she cannot imagine one of t h e Ind ians c u t t i n g t h e donkey. She saw a few wi re f ences , bu t none wi th barba.

We a r e s u r e our r e a d e r s a r e a11 f a m i l e r w i t h t h e "Snippyw c a s e , s o no need t o make a l l t h e obvious comparisons.

Thank you, Mrs. B., f o r a most i n t e r e s t i n g r e p o r t . We'l l keep i n touch.

Several Witnesses Sea Law Flying UFO Over Nm Hampshire - Ray Fowler, Investigator

On t he night of May 13, 1972 &.D;lohn Smithn' sa id goodnight t o Ma two sons, Don and Ron, and t h e i r frierxls, Bob and B i l l and went inalde the Smith horn on Holly H i l l a t Canterburg. N. H. It was 9:50 p.m. E.D.T. The boys were going to 'sleep outB In a partial ly-conatructed chicken coop.

In less than 10 minutes the four frightened lads rushed indoors t o t e l l ttm Smiths they had seen a atrange-shaped buaaing object with a f i e r y exhaust which apprcached tbe chicken coop shining a br ight Hght . The object had four s t ru t - Like legs with round pads, rectar,@lar protrusions and s i l v e r cable-like protrusions on top and was the shape of a decahedron. L Webster defines t h i s as -a so l id f igure with KJ plane surfaces." Ye Ed had t o look t h i s up and thought some of you ndght too.7

The Smitha l e f t t h e i r TV program ( there had been no interference) t o go outside j u s t i n time to see and hear something f ly ing over a nearby mamp. They thought it must be a helioopter a l tho it did not look l i ke one. The boys mere adamant that it was not a helicopter, so Mr. Smith asparated the two older boys and asked them t o draw a rough s k e b h of what they had seen. He was surprised t o see both drawings were consistent and of an unconventional c ra f t . He then reported the incident t o the USAF Tracking Stat ion a t New Boston, N.H., and one of the emplopem contacted a UFO investigator, an associate of b y Fouler, who conducted a t e b - phone interview with M r . Sllith and then contacted Mr. F w b r .

I n the course of h i s investigation, Mr. Fowler checked with the USAF Tracking S ta t ion and learned nothing had been seen on t h e i r radar screen a t t he time of the sighting, and also tha t t he i r radars track s a t e l l i t e s and would not pick up anything a t the lar a l t i t u d e of the reported object.

A check was made with the FAA A i r Traff ic Control Center a t Nashua; t he FAA A i r Traff ic Control Tower a t Manchester Airport; t he FAA Concord Flight Service; Uiggms Airways a t Norvood, Mass.; the EAF P.I.O. a t Hanscom Field, Bedfold and a t Pease AFB and the A i r National h a r d . Replies indicated nothing unusual was seen on radar and no f l i g h t s were logged i n the v i c in i ty of Holly H i l l a t tb time of the sighting. (Holly H i l l and the names of witnesses a r e a s m d namss --real names on f i b . )

Mr. Fcwler a l so phoned th s Cantorbu1-J Police Department t o see if anyone elso had reported a UFO on the 13th of May and was told no one had. The Police Chief gave Mr. Smlth a good character ra t ing a s a good c i t i zen and a personal friend.

Mr. Fowler mde an appointment t o interview the witnesses a t t he Smith horn the evening of %y 2bth. During the telephone conversation, he asked if the boys had access t o UFO l i t e r a t u r e o r had shown in t e re s t i n UFOs and was told they had not.

A t the interviews held a t the Smith home addi t ional d e t a i l s r e the s ight ing were laarned. J u s t before ilr. Srq~1.h had Wt the boys at tho chicken coop, lo- cated beside a barn and open t o a large f i e l d on t o the west, the boys asked him what the very bright star was which they cal led "the North Starn but he was not a b h t o iden t i fy it. Then ten minutes l a t e r , one of the boys, vho was st i l l looking at the so-called "North S ta rn (actual ly Venus) shouted t o t he others t h a t v e r e were now two north s t a r s out there and one was heading toward them.

The other boy8 s a t up and looked up t o see a very bright l i g h t source descend- ing slowly toward the f i e l d f r o m the WNW. They heard a sound coming i r o m it and jump ed out of t h e i r sleeping bags and onto the edge of the f i e l d outside t o see what they thought was a helicopter coming down. h e had his fa ther ' s sealed- beam f lash l igh t w i t h him and aimed it a t the object a s it continued t o corn closer. The the object did samething which seemed very strange t o tnem. It suddenly and ye t very smoothly, " l ike n Palline, f loat ing balloonn, descended in a strange naideuays zig-zagn manner. The object abruptly slowed t o a near s t a n l s t i l l when Don actual ly got the beam of the flashlight on the object a s it

This, coupled w i t h t h e un famihar noise and the l i g h t s he had seen, prompted b. Smith t o phone t h e Tracking b tn t ion .

Mr. Fowler checked wi th o the r s l i v ing i n the a rea t 3 s e e i f anyone e l s e had seen o r heard a w t h i n g unusual. One couple couldn ' t r e c a l l i f they had been a t horn t h a t night; another was out of the s t a t e a t t he time. One man s a i d he was outs ide a t t he t i m but hadn't seen o r heard anything unusual, but probably would have paid no a t t e n t i o n t o a plane o r he l i cop te r going over. He d i d remember t h a t h i s wife had come ou t t o complain about some except ional ly bad W i n t e r - fe rence j u s t before 10 P.M.

A mra. 'Xn s a i d t h a t sometime between 9 and 10 P.H. she heard a very loud je t engine and opened the bathroom window t o see what i t was, but saw nothing. He thought i t was a hellcopter and thought no more about it u n t i l Ur. Smith to ld him about the sighting of the 13th.

Two young women said they were watching a movie a t a drive-in theatre and both saw a strange horizontal s e t of l i t t l e square l igh ts (white) moving north t o south between 9:&5 and 10 P.U. No ident i f icat ion l lghts or actual object/ a i r c r a f t was seen but they both f e l t it looked out-of-the-ordinary.

In checking with the boys' teachers .a t school and with others well ac- quainted w i t h the boys and the i r parents, including a minister who had v is i ted the Smiths t o ask about the sighting, the concensus was t h a t the boys and M r . and Mrs. Smith described what they actual ly saw and would not l i e o r have any par t in perpetrating a hoax. KT. Fowler's personal conclusione, a f t e r the rmny interviews, concurs.

An in te res t ing paragraph in h is s u m t i o n of the case is: "There is a rough s imi la r i ty of the reported UFO t o the Apollo Lunar Module and had I not examined t h i s incident personally, I could easi ly have dismissed the incident a s a case of over-imaginative boys exaggerating as a helicopter flew over and giving it lunar Module descrlpticn. The descri2tion cer ta inly does not f i t the typical oval o r cyl indrical U W usually reported although i t is possible t h a t the object was in actual i ty i n the shape of a top which cer ta in ly has been reported in tne past. They a l l alluded t o an "edge" or "rid' that went around the object. Both a decahedron and top would exhibit such. The multi-colored exhaust and the " f a l l i ng - l edn descent a l so are typical character is t ics of Uns. One can only speculate what such an object was doing. It would appear tha t it was going t o land, perhaps somewhere i n the swamp it, was heading over."

And he concludes, "& evaluation of the Holly H i l l sighting on the Smith property i s tha t it represents a UFO i n the 'Significant Unknown* categorg."

WCs Behind the Iron Curtain - Beseurh by Joseph H. B r i l l No. U

The following is an excerpt from the WIlgrrian magazine K06140S, No. 7, 1967 ( J U ~ ) . The author is Conco Rodev, of Sofia, Bulgaria. m e t i t l e - "!!ore About These Flying S a u ~ e r s . ~

If it is necessary t o c h s s f f y UFO observations i n Bulgaria, then from tho the when the occurence took place t o the tim when the mter i .1 r e a c b d the printed s t a t e (middle of Way), the s t a f f would give foremost a t ten t ion t o tb. sighting i n h s e on A p r i l the 20th of t h i s year. This f ly ing bcdy on the hor- izon was obsemed f o r wre than three hours, and it was eas i ly seen--it may be said without exaggeration--by almost the e n t i r e population of the c i t y of Ruse. It changed its shape a m b e r of tlrnes and a l so i ts color and d i rec t ion of f l i gh t . We have a t our dispoeal photographa which a r e i n themselrer document. of cons id . r ab l in te res t .

The first obsemers aaw it around h:30 p.m. Comrades )lark0 Monev, Oeorgi Cen- dov, Trifon Nikolov and Boris Vasilev had a r e l a t i ve ly powerful t a l eecop . This uas described by Dr. Georgi Cendov, Directcr of the Art Gallery in b e , who ob- served the body from 5:15 t o 7:h5 p.m. He enclosed h i s drenlngs of t he obaened object accompanied by the following rtatements: nThie was the appearance of tho body which was observed thrcugh our telescope which magnified it by 1M) t i m e . Through t h i s instrument t he object resembled a crysta l . Its ex te r ior had a j e l l - l i k e appearance, and i t had three rib-l ike projections and two antenae. "By nmaua of the unaided eye it was not possible t o see tho object very c l e a r 4

though its glov could be noticed. We s t a r t ed our observations a t apprurisately t h e same time when the sun receded behind the horiaon. The object w a s i n c lose proximity t o the noon. After a while it moved due northeast and stopped fof a minute in a fixed position.

.Rcm the very beginning the body had a white glow, but l a t e r it began t o tum red. This was obviously a re f lec t ion of the se t t ing sun which from our point of v i m on ear th had already se t . It i s d i f f i c u l t t o estimate it# height, but it seemed that it was not located higher than 5 t o l0 kilometers. With an unaided e p a l l one could see was a huge ball , while through the telescope it resembled a star."

Artist E l i m Dobrev drew a diagram of the object'. motions and sude drawing. of i t s changing f o m . A s can be seen the body changed its d h c t i m of mve- ment twice and completely disappeared a s it approached Venus. Dr . Dobrev de- fined i t s color as "a s i l r e r i a h glen“ and "becoming or taking on a plrple toward the edges." T h e object was leaving a purple mist behind it. One interest ing de- t a i l , Dr . Dobrev a l so noticed was tha t a s a t e l l i t e crossed the path of the object , but while the s a t e l l i t e was moving rapidly and on a s t r a igh t course, the mve- nent of the object was a l w , c i rcu la r and with changes of direction. Another cur iousi ty was t h a t during the t h when the object was a b v e Ruse, strong s ta t10 interferenee d i s tor ted the functioning of the radio s e t s there.

According t o the i n f o n a t i o n received by the Peoples Observatory the abjact was a lso observed in Panagyurische.

Since the sighting caused a genuine sensation in mse, the following dsy the l oca l newspaper uDunevska FTavdam (No. 95/1967) published a shor t a r t i c l e by K. Terziski, a senior physicist, en t i t l ed "An Interesting Occuranco in Rum.* The u t i c l e , aaong other things s ta ted the following: the ob jsc t which was seen by mny c i t i aens and a few s c i e n t i f i c vorkere. Obsemation through high- powered teloscopea confirmed t h a t the s t ructure of t he object was such as tc r u b out its being a balloon of any sor t . Very l ike ly it was a remnant of a rocket which had turned in to an a r t i f i c i a l o a t h a a t e l l l t e and which ro ta tes , rhicb accounts f o r i ts changing ehspe. I t e glow wau caused by the r e f l ec t ion of the l i g h t rays of the sun.=

can say tha t h i s hypothesis about the origin of the object ia dubioue. The ob- j ec t seen over Ruse could n ~ t have been a s a t e l l i t e . The unusually long time during which the object remained on the horizon and the i r regular i ty of its course effect ively render t h i s hypothesis in the highest measure extremely unlikely.
