Steel Artwork (Procession)

Procession is a steel-rod sculpture on Armenian Street, George Town. It is on the wall to your left, after the big "Old Man" mural by Ernest Zacharevic.

The sculpture depicts the Grand Float Procession held in 1926 to celebrate the birthday of Tua Pek Kong. As it was the Year of the Tiger, effigies of the tiger was carried through the streets

Observing the procession is a British tourist who remembers the last tiger shot in 1930

Tang Mun Kian The artist, designer and cartoonist behind

these wire sculptures is Tang Mun Kian. A graduate of the Malaysian Institute of Art, he dabbled as an advertising art director for a decade in Singapore before moving his base to Kuala Lumpur

- "Boy on a Bike", the lively "Little Children on a Bicycle" to the whimsical"Little Boy with Pet Dinosaur".

KERN -started when Tan Yi ,6 and her brother, Tan Kern, 4 , were out with their parents Adrian Tan and Ashley Teoh-members of the Urban Sketchers Penang during a sketching walkabout, at the Goddess of Mercy Temple in Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling last year. -Zacharevic was also at the event.

-“He captured that particular scene which has now become the famous mural,”

Proximity

An organization of perception process states objects that are physically close to each other will be perceived as a

Explanation:Audience will assumes that children is riding on the bicycle because they

were close to the bicycle as if riding on it, even though they are not.

Non-verbal communicationcommunication without words. It includes apparent

behaviours such as facial expressions, eyes, touching, and tone of voice, as well as less obvious messages such as dress, posture and spatial distance between

two or more people.

Explanation:The mural painting clearly showed the sibling love since the younger

brother hugged his sister from the back. The joy in their faces expressed their happiness.

Collectivist culture The culture that tend to view themselves as members of groups and usually consider the needs of the group to be more important than the needs of individuals.

Explanation:The mural painting emphasize the strong bonding of family, which focus

on commitment towards family and value the cooperation between siblings.

Space

Explanation:Since the younger brother hugged his sister from the back, obviously, it is an intimate space, which meant the distance between this two siblings is

very close (0-6 inches).

Concept of space states that an individual surrounded by intimate, personal, social or public space.

Explanation:Audience felt so loved with the mural painting (internal state) because

Reggie Lee

Reggie Lee was born and raised in penang.He studied St.Xavier’s institution and now is a famous cartoonist in Malaysia.His

cartoon appear in Malaysia’s largest daily,The Star.He is also probably the only artist to have

his creations in so many mediums from cyberspace to moviespace.

Non-Dominant Cultural Communication-Assimilation

• to bring or come into harmony; adjust or become adjusted: the new immigrants assimilated easily.

Ah Quee corporating to have his property taken down so that a road could be built.The artwork shows him talking with a seemingly british officer which represent the cooperation between them to achieve something in harmony.

Ethnocentrism

• judging another culture solely by the values and standards of one's own culture.

The british guy in artwork seemed to be making fun of Ah Quee’s name by calling it in many ways which shows ethnocentrism.He is judging Ah Quee’s name by comparing it to the names in his culture that is used to him.
