Safeguarding at Cormack Park

We are sure that everyone is delighted with the opening of our custom-built training facilities at Cormack Park, the

new home to our First Team and Development Squads, the Bobby Clark Youth Academy and our partner charity

Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust.

We want this facility to be enjoyed by all attending here in whatever capacity; be it player, parent, supporter, or

visitor. As many of our attendees will be children, we have agreed on some Safeguarding principles which we want

you to support and promote at our training site and community hub.

Please remember, at Aberdeen Football Club, we expect the wellbeing and protection of children and young people

to be everyone’s responsibility.

As a basic Safeguarding measure the use of still and video cameras and mobile phones capable of taking or recording

images is prohibited at the facility.

Signs are in place around the training facility to this effect.

This has also been legislated for within our terms and conditions at Cormack Park and our own policy around

Children’s Wellbeing and Protection policy has been refreshed to reflect this.

There is a real risk posed directly and indirectly to children and young people by the unauthorised publication of imagery on sports websites, social networks and other platforms. Images can be used as a means of identifying children when associated with personal information e.g. this is x who lives at y; x is a member of the z sports club and likes a certain music group. This information can make a child vulnerable to an individual who may wish to contact and start to “groom” that child for abuse – online (e.g. through websites or social networking) or through direct contact in the offline, “real‟ world. Information placed on the internet has also been used by estranged parents (e.g. in adoption or domestic violence circumstances) to identify, trace and cause significant difficulties for children. For our purposes a child is recognised as someone under the age of 18 years. The consent we seek from children and their parents/carers is in relation to images that we, at AFC, have control over. What we would like you all to note is

- the interests and welfare of children at Cormack Park is paramount

- children and their parents/carers have a right to decide whether their images are taken, and how these may be used, not a third party.

Please always remember that Cormack Park is a private, professional training facility. The facility is not a public place

and individuals do not have any right of access without the consent of Aberdeen Football Club. Please respect the

need for individuals’ privacy and help maintain the high standards which are a hallmark of our Club.

It is our aim that everyone enjoy football at Cormack Park, promote children’s wellbeing and safety and we trust

memories made there can be experienced in “real time” by everyone.
