After A Rocky Marriage....Hope ...continuedin addition to the shelter, available through CFI:
• Financial support
• Transitional housing
• Continuing education
• Legal services
• Medical advocacy
• Support and education groups
In addition, CFI has a teen program dedicated to educating teens on the dangers of domestic violence and what to do if they fi nd themselves or a friend in an abusive relationship.
Most importantly, Nicole learned how to keep herself and her children safe when she chose to leave her abusive relationship. At CFI, we not only listen to the cries of domestic violence victims, we are working hard every day to end violence everywhere.
Does Your Employer Match Gifts?
Many corporations will match a gift(s) made by employees, up to a certain dollar amount. If you're already giving to Children & Families of Iowa, why not make your gift go even further with an employer matching gift?
Check with your supervisor or Human Resources Department to get information on your employer's matching gift policy. If you qualify for a matching gift, just submit the required paperwork along with your personal gift and we'll take care of the rest.
Know the Signs of Domestic Violence
Control • I can't make decisions without my partner. • I need my partner's permission to do things. • I can't express my opinion or feelings around my
partner.
Humiliation • My partner embarrases me and makes fun of me
in front of my family and friends. • My partner says horrible things about me, and I
am beginning to believe they are true.
• I feel I am nothing without my partner.Guilt
• My partner says that he or she "just lost control" because of alcohol, drugs or something I did.
• I make excuses to my friends and family for my partner's behavior.
• Nothing I do will make my partner happy.Intimidation
• I often give in to my partner out of fear for what the reaction will be.
Fear • I am afraid of my partner. • My partner has used violence in the past to get
his or her way. • I can't leave because I am scared of what my
partner will do.
