City of Dunkirk is a full service
municipality providing Water,
Sewer, Streets, Police, Fire, City
Court, Recreation and other public
services to residents of Dunkirk.
The Mayor and Common Council
have oversight of the City and its
various departments. Regular
meetings are held on the first and
third Tuesday of each month in
the City Court of City Hall at 5:30
PM.

The Office of the City Clerk assists
taxpayers and residents of the City
of Dunkirk by providing a variety
of diverse services. These services
include: processing birth, death,
and marriage certificates;
licensing of taxi drivers, electrician
license; issuing dog licenses;
issuing hunting licenses; providing
access to public records; and, all
bidding and contract processing
on goods, products, and services
purchased by the City of Dunkirk.
Assessor’s Office: Clerk: Erica Munson: 716-366-9836The Assessor’s office is staffed bythe Clerk of the Board of Assessors,an elected official who estimatesthe value of real property within theCity’s boundaries. This value isconverted into an assessment,which is one component in thecomputation of real property taxbills. The Assessor administersexemption programs for seniorcitizens and veterans. Building and ZoningZoning Officer: Glenn Christner 716-366-9858The primary purpose of the Buildingand Zoning Department is to ensurebuilding safety through theenforcement of municipal, state andfederal regulations and codes. TheBuilding and Zoning Office issuesbuilding permits for various types ofstructures. This includes newconstruction, additions, alterationsor demolition, swimming pools,signs, storage sheds, fences, anddecks. The Building and ZoningOffice should be contacted beforestarting any project.
Garbage PickupIf you live within the City youcan leave your garbage at thecurb no earlier than 7:30 PMthe evening before yourdesignated pickup day.

Dog LicensingEvery dog owned or harbored in NewYork State for longer than 30 days mustbe licensed in the town, city, or villagewhere the dog is being harbored. Cityresidents may apply for or renew a doglicense in the Office of the City Clerk inCity Hall. All dogs must be licensed bythe age of 4 months. Proof of currentrabies vaccination and, if applicable,the spay / neuter certificate must bepresented at the time of licensing. Spayed / Neutered = $12.50/dogUnspayed/Unneutered = $20.50/dog
