Local Government Services City of Dunkirk is a full service municipality providing Water, Sewer, Streets, Police, Fire, City Court, Recreation and other public services to residents of Dunkirk. The Mayor and Common Council have oversight of the City and its various departments. Regular meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month in the City Court of City Hall at 5:30 PM. City Clerk’s Office Clerk: Edwin Ramos: 716-366-0452 The Office of the City Clerk assists taxpayers and residents of the City of Dunkirk by providing a variety of diverse services. These services include: processing birth, death, and marriage certificates; licensing of taxi drivers, electrician license; issuing dog licenses; issuing hunting licenses; providing access to public records; and, all bidding and contract processing on goods, products, and services purchased by the City of Dunkirk. Assessor’s Office: Clerk: Erica Munson: 716-366-9836 The Assessor’s office is staffed by the Clerk of the Board of Assessors, an elected official who estimates the value of real property within the City’s boundaries. This value is converted into an assessment, which is one component in the computation of real property tax bills. The Assessor administers exemption programs for senior citizens and veterans. Building and Zoning Zoning Officer: Glenn Christner 716-366-9858 The primary purpose of the Building and Zoning Department is to ensure building safety through the enforcement of municipal, state and federal regulations and codes. The Building and Zoning Office issues building permits for various types of structures. This includes new construction, additions, alterations or demolition, swimming pools, signs, storage sheds, fences, and decks. The Building and Zoning Office should be contacted before starting any project. Garbage Pickup If you live within the City you can leave your garbage at the curb no earlier than 7:30 PM the evening before your designated pickup day.
