News articles are due by April 19 to appear in May’s NewSense.
“But these (stories/signs) are written so that you may come to believe
that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God…” (John 20:31)
Since January of this year, we have a group of adults who have been
studying the Gospel of Mark. All that we have learned together has
been fascinating about the life of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.
We have others throughout the congregation who have been reading
one chapter a day of the New Testament. At this writing I’m up to the
Gospel of Luke, chapter 10. We’ve read completely through Matthew
and Mark, so it’s been very inviting to see the different views each
Gospel writer offers us about the person, personality, and purpose of
our Lord Jesus!
The Bible is a tool. It can be compared to an artist’s brush, or a sculp-
tor’s hands; a poet’s pen, or an athlete’s skill with his/her hands or
feet. The Bible helps us develop a portrait all our own of how God
has come down to this earth solely to save us from our sinful selves.
The Bible teaches us that He does it with mighty grace and amazing
compassion.
We learned a few weeks ago during one of our mid-week Lenten ser-
vices that God truly does love the world so much that He sent His Son
to die for us – so that everyone who believed in Him would live for-
ever with Him. God didn’t send His Son so that He would be used to
hurt or judge anyone or any nation. Jesus was sent so that the world
might be saved through Him. (John 3:16-17)
That is the sole purpose of God’s Word: to bind us together, not push
us apart. It is to show the common nature of which we are made, and
not how different we are from others. This, then, must be the purpose
of the Church, whose head is Jesus Christ and foundation is the Word
of God. Let us, then, not judge but love.
What about judgment then? It, too, serves an important purpose, but
you’ll have to wait for next month’s newsletter!
Your friend in Christ,
Pastor Jim
The Purpose of the Gospel
Pastor Nipper will be out of town
on Wednesday, April 11 and
Thursday April 12 for a Synodical
Dean’s Meeting at Lutheranch.

Our sympathies Bob and Helen Fetterolf on
the passing of their son Bob from cancer.
Robert Paul Fetterolf, age 50, passed into eternal rest at the Hospice House in Char-lotte, NC, on March 7, following a multi-year battle with cancer.
Please feel free to dress casually and wear
team tees, jerseys, college tees, etc. This is a
celebration, not a funeral. Looking forward
to you joining us for the celebration. Please
RSVP to the Church Office (282-2313) or to
[email protected]. If you have already
sent an RSVP to Barry & Helen you do not
need to respond here. They would like to
know the number of folks who are coming
by March 31.
Safety and Security Meeting
The Safety and Security committee meet Friday
March 9. Four things were discussed and de-
cided at the meeting.
1. Ushers will receive training on March 17th.
This includes picking a head usher for each
Sunday that will direct the activities of the other
ushers. Ushers will be walked through what
doors are to be watched and then when to lock
those doors as doing a patrol of the basement
and the rest of the building insure no one is
hiding in the building.
2. Escape route maps will be posted through-
out the building so people know where to go in
an emergency.
3. It was decided that three cameras will be put
outside to watch the parking lots. During the
week. Cindy and the Pastors will have monitors
in the office that they can check to see if any
strangers are loitering around the building es-
pecially on PDO days. On Sundays the ushers
will have monitors in the narthex on the organ
side the sanctuary for them to check. The cam-
eras will record on a sixty to ninety-day rota-
tion period.
4. In addition to the usher training. We were
informed that Melissa Malenda will be doing
emergency medical training such as first aid
and a CPR class. To be prepared for medical
emergencies. Cabinets with medical supplies
will be put in or near the sanctuary and fellow-
ship hall.
5. The doors in the courtyard will be locked at
night to prevent anyone from coming over the
back roof and getting in through those door.
Stewardship en-compasses so much more than money. It is a way of life. It calls for integration be-
tween our faith and the way that we live our lives — we are a church that is ener-gized by lively engagement in our faith and life. Stewardship is a mindset, a culture. Ac-cording to Clarence Stoughton, former president of Wittenberg University, stew-ardship is everything we do after we say “I believe.” It is the way in which we use all of the resources that God has entrusted to our care so that we can love God and our neighbor. Stewardship is about love. Are we showing that we believe?

But the Angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid. I know that you’re
here looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He isn’t
here–
He has RISEN VICTORIOUSLY! Look! See the place where they
laid him.” Mark 16:6
Parishioners, think for just a minute. The victory of Christ over
death, Hell and the Grave has been Graciously given to anyone
who believes and will receive God’s precious gift. I think Mary
would say to us today if she were here…”YOU ARE AN OVERCOM-
ER, BECAUSE CHRIST OVERCAME!”

health, just as your soul is prospering. Happy Easter Friends, ~Go God! Melissa Malenda, RN-parish nurse.

Musings from the Organ Bench
Dear Friends!
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118: 24
Are you truly excited?!!! Easter is almost here and it’s NO joke! (April 1). What a glorious day! Our Psalm for Easter is Psalm 118. We will chant this uplifting Psalm using Tone 1. This tone will highlight the joy of this day (as opposed to the penitential Tone 8 that we have been using in Lent)! Then during the Offertory Anthem, you are invited to sing this Psalm again with the choir. Your response to the Psalm verses will be printed in the bulletin. The Chancel Choir will sing the verses; congregation joins on the refrain. I hope that you will sing with great gusto!
Why do we ask the congregation to join in singing some of our anthems? Think back to Dr. Luther who “gave back” the singing to the people. Prior to Luther, a choir of men and boys provided all the music in the cathedrals/churches. All was sung in Latin; not the language of the common person. You as a congregant were a spectator – your participation was severely lim-ited. However, Dr. Luther changed all that. He be-lieved that music is a “second” way to pray and be-longs to the people.
So we honor that philosophy by having you “share” in some of our musical offerings. A refrain-verse musical
selection is a great way to have you be involved with the anthem. You will find that the Easter anthem is easy to learn and very joyful. I hope that you will use this experience to heighten your Easter joy!
Okay, not everyone can sing like Charlotte Church or Josh Groban – but do you really think God cares?! Again, let your joy grow and be expressed by singing! We’re not the “good singing” police – we just want you to experience fully a gift that is freely given to everyone by our Lord.
A little footnote from my childhood: My father loved to sing – not just loved; he LOVED to sing. His melo-dious baritone would ring in our home and in our church. (I can remember many times in our home when he would ask me to play hymns so that he could sing.) You could NOT turn down his volume – and there were times that I really wanted to do that. BUT the bottom line was when you heard him and looked at his face, you saw pure joy! How I wish I could hear and see him now. He’d show us how to “make a joyful noise.” And as I think back on his father (my grandfa-ther), it was the very same thing – my dad “caught” it from his dad. I guess it’s a family thing! Joy, JOY, JOY!
Know that you are loved by our wonderful Father God and that I love you too. Blessed Eastertide!

…all the women working so diligently on the Summer Retreat!
Thank You Parish and Staff
We would like to thank the congregation for their prayers, cards, and all the great food we have received. For two
weeks we were having to stay away from all people so they wouldn’t get the illness we had. God bless all of you and
our Pastors. Carl and Brenda Snyder
Heartsong Anonymous Donor,
Heartsong music department really appreciates the kind and generous donation given to us anonymously for our
future needs.
Thank you very much,
Tony Mowell and the Heartsong band
Friends at Our Saviour Lutheran Church,
Marcia & I are forever grateful to our church family during this most difficult time in my life. We thank you for the many cards,
food, sweet treats during the Holidays, visits, and calls. We thank both Pastors for their many visits during the last six months
and most of all the prayers prayed on my behalf. Your continued prayers will carry me through the next phase of my treatment.
Blessings to you all. Ken Peters
"I appreciate the prayers offered for my son Scott Anderson's health concerns due to "Desert Storm Syndrome." He is feeling
better.
He says, 'Thank you for the positive energy sent through your prayers for me.'
The current Veterans' Administration program is assisting with his pain management through acupuncture and other modali-
ties. Their physical therapy program helps him to become more mobile. I'm so glad the VA is willing to try other remedies other
than strictly drugs which often cause too many side effects.
Again thank you for your prayers.
