    Staff Development Days 2020 -2021

In 2020, our school year for students concludes on Wednesday 16 December and the Department of Education has gazetted Thursday 17 and Friday 18 December as School Development Days. At Holgate Public School the staff have completed professional learning as time in lieu from 3:00pm and 6:00pm over Term 3 and Term 4 as follows:

    • Tuesday 4 August CPR and Anaphylaxis • Tuesday 25 August on Focus on Reading and STEM • Tuesday 15 September Focus on Reading, STEM and learning progressions • Tuesday 27 October NAIDOC Day, Maker Faire Movie and school planning.

In 2021, the NSW Government has gazetted Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 January as two staff development days with 1-6 returning on Friday 29 January. This moves one of the end of year staff development days to the beginning of the year. This has been very well received by staff.

    Check in Assessment 2020

This year with NAPLAN being cancelled due to COVID-19 the Department of Education developed Check in Assessments for Years 3 and 5. These were undertaken by our students and staff have analysed the data from these. These assessments do not provide parents with a report but have given the school value data.

    Numeracy Year 3:

    • 64.8% overall performance which indicates we are slightly below SSSG average (Like / similar schools to HPS) of 65.5%, however performing above state average of 62.8%

    Numeracy Year 5

    • 65% overall performance which indicates above SSSG average (like /similar schools to HPS) of 63.7% and above state average of 60%

Check in analysis identified measurement and geometry in both Years 3 and 5 as areas of future focus. Staff identified place value language, conversions, units within length, area, volume and capacity, mass, 3D and 2D as focus outcomes.

    Reading Year 3

    • 63% overall performance which indicates we are above SSSG average (like /similar schools to HPS) of 61.9% and above state average of 58.6%

  • Reading Year 5

    • 61.3% overall performance which indicates we are below SSSG average (like /similar schools to HPS) of 64.5 % and above state average of 60.7%

Similar performance from Years 3 and 5 with vocabulary as the school’s highest priority, followed by comprehension then processing. Grammar, vocabulary and punctuation in a wide range of texts and looking at using language to shape and make meaning according to purpose, audience and context will underpin the school’s next steps.

Before and After School Care (BASC) Survey

    Dear Parents

We want to offer families more flexibility with their work commitments and child care arrangements and to create more opportunities across the whole community. Having Out of School Hours Care available at local schools is a great way to achieve this.

As part of the NSW Government’s $120 million Before and After School Care (BASC) commitment, parents at all NSW schools were recently invited to complete a Have Your Say Survey. The survey asked parents to tell us how they are using Out of School Hours Care, how much it costs them, whether they plan to keep using it, and what difficulties they experience in accessing it. The survey results have helped us to better understand the needs of families and what’s important to them.

    https://www.ritchies.com.au/ritchiescardterms

  • We are now asking all parents to complete a quick follow-up survey by Friday 27 November 2020. You can access the survey at https://surveys.education.nsw.gov.au/s3/OSHCParentSurvey. This information will help us to target the rollout of more Out of School Hours Care services in the right areas.

If your child does not require Out of School Hours care, we ask that you please still complete the first section of this survey as it gives us important information about the level of demand at your school.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your school at Holgate Public School or the BASC Program team by phone on 1300 244 145 or email at: [email protected]

All money that is received into the canteen in the morning will be cleaned prior to being given as change and separate containers will be used when recess and lunch money is received, so as not to cross contaminate clean and dirty money. This is just a small measure we are taking to keep everyone safe. Kids are always encouraged to wash their hands and sanitiser will be available if needed. Social distancing will be encouraged.
