MESSAGE FROM MASTER PAT, CHIEF INSTRUCTORI would like to take this opportunity to offer a warm welcome to all the students of Vanessa's

Southsea club, who have recently become Powerhouse TKD members. We have known Vanessafor some time through her training at the University of Portsmouth and also as she joinedPowerhouse TKD two years ago and has represented Powerhouse TKD well at some competitions.

Powerhouse TKD is part of ChungDoKwan Great Britain and as such we have opportunities totrain with some of the most experienced and able instructors in this country and abroad.ChungDoKwan was one of the first organisations for Tae Kwon Do in the UK and we stillmaintain the guiding principle of its founder (Master Vincent Cheong) to train together infriendship. The Powerhouse clubs are at Swanmore and Havant and some of us also instruct at theUniversity of Portsmouth. The club is an off-shoot of the Southampton clubs and it has been inexistence since 1994. We still maintain very close connection with the Southampton clubs

(Southampton City, Southampton University, Waterside) and run joint gradings with them. Forthose just joining we are planning to run a separate grading, as one has happened recently.

As well as our regular clubs we can also train with other instructors and clubs throughChungDoKwan, recently some of us took the opportunity to train with an Olympic and Worldchampion (Master Moon Dae Song, photo in this newsletter) and some will soon be going toHungary to take part in an international TKD training camp

Tae Kwon Do offers many benefits and good things to do, fitness, development of new skills, self-defence, self confidence, a focus and time to escape from the demands of everyday life, formfriendships and overcome challenges. All of these can come through TKD, as well as opportunities

for competition. We try to make sure everyone has the opportunity to do these, but we also realisethat not everyone wants (or is able) to commit to all aspects. So we welcome everyone irrespectiveof age and ability and hope to provide ways to improve and gain the benefits that you want (as wellas having lots of fun on the way). However TKD also has a serious side: it is a martial art, and itcalls for a disciplined and dedicated attitude. Having trained now with Vanessa at Southsea I amsure that she and her students will fit in very well. There will be a summer training session comingup soon (details in this newsletter) and there will be a chance to meet other people fromPowerhouse TKD (and some other clubs) and hopefully enjoy some slightly different training, learnsome new things and make new friends.

    BE ON TIME FOR LESSONS!!!

Please make sure that you arrive intime to start the lesson promptly. Late

arrivals disrupt the lesson and alsoincrease the risk of injuries etc becausethe students are missing the warm up.

    DRINKS

Whilst there is water available atReception in Swanmore, it disrupts thelessons to have students leaving the

Please ensure that you bring a drink ina bottle that can be used in the hall.
