Entirely black DM shoes are acceptable but not boots. Entirely black Kicker style shoes are acceptable but not boots. Our School Planner does state that no trainers or hooded tops should be worn as part of our school uniform so we would appreciate it if you could reinforce this message with your daughters. Ideally, there would be no students in trainers. However, we are aware that new Year 7 families may have already purchased these. Our aim is to work with you to ensure that only low cut plain black shoes are worn as part of our school uniform. Thank you for your continued support with this. Summer Building Works We have almost completed the upgrading of the school’s new heating project and installation of a lift in order to ensure that the school is accessible to everyone. School Restaurant New arrangements for serving school lunches in two sittings is now in place and we have decorated the school restaurant accordingly. With two lunch slots on the timetable (labelled as 4A and 4B) we are able to ensure that students do not have to queue for long and lunchtime feels calmer already. School Uniform It has been pleasing to see so many of our students looking smart in their uniform, including their black shoes. Indeed, some of our neighbours have commented on how proud and professional they look. As a school Hornsey has high expectations of all of its students. This means that we take the way our students wear Hornsey’s school uniform and the shoes they wear very seriously. All students are required to be in full uniform before entering the school and to be wearing appropriate shoes. With this in mind we thought we would clarify the issue of shoes as follows: Entirely black shoes to be worn at all times. No boots, heels or san- dals. All parents, carers and members ofstaff are invited to attend meetingsand get involved to help us supportthe pupils of Hornsey School for Girls.

The object of the PTA is to advance theeducation of pupils at the school in thefollowing ways:

By developing effective relationshipsbetween the staff, parents and othersassociated with the school

By engaging in activities and providingfacilities or equipment which supportthe school and advance the educationof the pupils

Parent Governor ElectionsThere are three vacancies for ParentGovernor of pupils attending theschool.

In addition to Parent Governors theGoverning Body includes:

● Community Governors whoare appointed by otherGovernors.

Portrait Photography

There will be a photographer inschool taking photographs forstudent ID cards which will also beavailable to purchase in variouspacks. As the majority of studentswere taken in June the photos willbe taken of the new Year 7’s andPost 16 students along with some ofthe Year 9 students who were nottaken last term and any other newstarters.

A letter will be sent home to allstudents involved with furtherdetails including how to purchasephoto packs online.

If your daughter is having her phototaken please make sure that shearrives at school in full schooluniform and is neat andpresentable.

ELECTION OF PARENT GOVERNORS

HORNSEY SCHOOL FOR GIRLS GOVERNING BODY

Dear Parent/Carer,

There are three vacancies for Parent Governor of pupils attending the school.

In addition to Parent Governors the Governing Body includes:

LA Governors Appointed by the Council Staff Governors Elected by the other staff at the school Community Governors Appointed by other Governors

Parent Governors can play an important part in the overall direction of the school. School Governorshave been given many new responsibilities in recent years and Governors will have a significant role toplay in overseeing the implementation of the national curriculum.

All parents, guardians and carers of pupils attending the school are eligible to stand. If there are morenominations than places available an election will be held.

If you are interested in being a Parent Governor:-

1. Please complete the nomination form overleaf, get it countersigned by a proposer and return it tothe Clerk at the school no later than Friday, 20th September 2013

2. If an election is necessary candidates will be asked to provide a brief statement aboutthemselves. The statement must not exceed 50 words and will need to be at the school by nolater than Tuesday 24th September 2013

3. Ballot papers, including the candidate's statements, will be distributed on Friday, 27th September2013

4. Parents may use pupil post, GPO mail or return ballot papers personally to the school to be in theballot box by no later than Friday, 11th October 2013

5. The votes will be counted and the results will be posted on the school notice board on 15th

October 2013 and in the next available newsletter.
