OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES FOR OUR STUDENTS
Newsletter
Principal’s Message Dear Parents and Community Members,
The Coffs Harbour Excursion is only 10 weeks away and we are requesting
information about the number of students attending. Please complete the
attached note with your child/rens intentions for the excursion. The school
has also set up a payment plan to assist families with their payments. Please
use the plan in this newsletter as a guide to help organise fortnightly
payments.
The before school morning procedure for our school is when students arrive
at school they need to sit down on the silver seats and wait quietly until the
teacher on duty rings the bell and instructs students to place their bags away
before they play.
The Oxley High team have visited our school to meet our Year 6 students in
preparation for next year. The students mostly asked questions around ‘not
getting lost’. They discussed being in a year group of well over 200 Year 7
students and talked to their Year Advisor. The transition to Oxley High School
will commence next term.
Thank you to our parents and students for making good decisions about
which uniform to wear on a daily basis during the transition phase from
winter to summer uniform. We have until the end of this term for the
transition period.
Mrs Abra engaged in professional learning last Thursday and Friday at the
School Learning Support Officer SLSO Conference in Tamworth. Mrs Makings
and Mrs Weis will attended the BNL 3 hour professional learning on
Wednesday afternoon at Moonbi from 1pm - 4pm and Mrs Worley will be at
Dungowan SCOUT training at the same time. Mrs Cowell will be in charge of
the school during this time.
Kindest regards,
Shanyn Worley

K-2 News Report
English
Reading Groups are in full swing this week, we have learnt our new literacy activities for the fortnight in our
“must do” baskets and have been working very hard at the jellybean table with Mrs Makings reading our new
and familiar books. In Independent Writing we are on to our new Dreaming Story – it is called The Echidna and
the Shade Tree and this week we will be writing descriptions of the echidna in the story and discussing the
difference in his appearance from the beginning to the end of the story, draw and write the beginning, middle
and end of the story, discuss what they liked or didn’t like about the text and work together to act out different
scenes from the book in their own words using puppets and backdrops.
Mathematics
Students are learning all about multiplication and division. Kinder students will be learning to model equal
groups and recognise groups that are not equal in size. Year 1 and 2 students will be learning recognise and
represent multiplication as repeated addition, groups and arrays. They will also learn to divide amounts into ar-
rays without remainders.
History
In Kinder history, students are comparing family structures and activities from the past. They will interview Mrs
Makings and compare similarities and differences between the past and present. Year 1 and 2 students are
comparing the toys and games they play, with toys and games of the past. Analysing sources such as old
photographs and television footage, students are encouraged to investigate toys from the last seventy years.
Creative Arts
This term we have been looking at Modern art, so far, we have studied Andy Warhol, Op Art, positive and
negative space and this week we will be looking at an Artist called Keith Haring. Keep your eyes peeled for some
amazing work to be appearing around the K-2 classroom very soon.
Homework
If your child has been given sight words, this is just a reminder to please let me know when you have completed
the set and are ready for the next or they have been misplaced. Thank you!!

PBL Week 8
This week our focus is: Persistence
Where is it important to be persistent?
Learning a new skill
Trying a new activity
Completing home learning tasks
Completing projects at home
Playing team or individual sports
In all classrooms
In assembly
During tests
When learning
What does it mean to be persistent?
Being persistent means to stick to something in a determined way
Being persistent means focusing on the long term, not the short term. It helps you to not give up when
things are hard
Persistent learners put in effort to achieve a goal
Being persistent helps you to be a successful learner
Steps to help you to be persistent
Use your time wisely
Break down your tasks into small steps

Playground Changes
Due to the change in weather we are now swapping the areas available for students to access during recess and
lunch to enable students to access more shaded areas during the hotter parts of the day.
Sun Safe Hats
Please ensure your child remembers to bring their sun safe hat to school to
ensure they have access to all parts of the playground available. We only have a
small number of spare hats to lend out and the weather is becoming much more
intense at play time. If your child does not have access to a hat, they will be only
able to access the COLA area.
Ingredients:
3 cups Cauliflower, blanched, chopped finely
3/4 Cup Plain Flour
2 Cloves Garlic, finely chopped
2 Eggs, beaten
½ Cup Grated Parmesan cheese (optional if dairy-free)
