On the north, the vast, bone-dry Atacama Desert. To the south, giant ice fields. With the Andes and the Pacific Ocean sheltering green valleys and vineyards in the center and a south blanketed in ancient native forests, Chile stands fully protected from foreign pests and disease. Its unique geography is striking, varied, and pristine. The Chilean economy emphasizes trade and investment and is recognized around the world for openness and stability. About Chilean Graphic Narrative The Chilean Graphic Narrative has a long history. Its first character, Von Pilsener, was published in 1906. Over time, the local comic production reached its golden age in the decade of the 50’s and 60’s, which standed out by the significant production of national publishers, such as Zig-Zag and Quimantú. In this period, many magazines that covered different genres and styles were realeased, such as Condorito, Barrabases, the Sinister Dr. Mortis and Mampato are the most emblematic ones of the Chilean Comic story in those years. After the demise of the comic publishing industry, self- publication has become the most popular option of the Chilean graphic storytellers. The emergence of new and talented creators, along with the new self-publishing artists, are the best proof of the great time experimented by this two-dimensional art in Chile. Nowadays different Chilean professionals have entered foreign markets by participating in various companies and book titles of South America, North America, Europe and Asia.
