Avoid the mistake of starting too slow and ending too fast.

- problem (what are you here to solve?),

- promise (what can they expect?)

- deliver 3-5 solutions with a story for each one.

50% for content

Use this timing formula:

- summary, call-to-action, closing story

15% for the close

Use this timing formula:

#2 Start with a Story

Skip the I’m-so-glad-to-be-here self-serving babble and jump right into a story.

A well-told story will always knock the socks off a poorly told story about, say winning an Olympic medal.

#3 Use Fewer Slides

Your slides are NOT the message - they should ADD to your message(not make it worse)

• no more than 1 slide every 2 minutes

• no more than 4 bullets per slide

• no more than 8 words per bullet*

#4 Do the Boogie

Every 10-12 minutes get your audience moving.

They will learn more, remember more(and recommend you more)

#5 Be Funny

Question: “Do you have to be funny in your speech?”

Answer: “Only if you want to get invited back.”

Question: “Do you have to be funny in your speech?”

Instead of trying to be funny, watch for funny or surprising moments (kids, dog, neighbours, or shopping) in everyday life.

#6 Get Social Proof

Here’s a secret to getting booked to speak more: Get audience feedback during your speech.

About halfway, I always ask:

“Are you enjoying this and is it valuable?”

The applause I get is called Social Proof

(now they ALL agree this is world class)

#7 Connect with the Audience

People learn from people they connect with.

This is true in management, sales, love and your next presentation.

4 ways to connect with your audience:

• wear clothes similar but slightly better than your audience,• use words they understand (don’t try to impress),

• stay on stage until they’re warmed up to you,

• share some faults (it makes you human).

#8 Deliver less Content, Better

Avoid doing a ‘brain dump’ on your audience—you’ll look like an amateur and they’ll forget it.

Instead, deliver less content, better:

• remove content that doesn’t reinforce your main points,

• anchor every lesson to a story,

• repeat the best parts,• summarize

#9 End with a Bang

It simple, if you want to be memorable, close with an emotional story. If you want to be memorable, close with an emotional story.
