High speed oil containment The NOFI Harbour Buster is ideal for oil containment operations in harbours and fjords due to a design that provides excellent manoeuvrability. The NOFI Harbour Buster can operate in shallow waters, and can withstand a current speed up to 3 knots in calm water. Even very low viscosity fuels, such as diesel, can be safely recovered at this towing speed (well documented in the OHMSETT test tank in NJ, USA). The depth of the separator tank is 1,5 m, and it can hold approx. 15 m 3 of oil and sea water. Separation of oil and water takes place by natural settling and the sea water is drained through a bottom valve. The NOFI Harbour Buster is a flexible system, because it can be towed either by two boats, or by one single boat togheter with the paravane BoomVane. The NOFI Buster Technology offers very efficient oil containment and control of the oil, and the system has a unique maneuverability, superior to conventional booms that have an operational limit of ca. 1 knot only. The technology is well proven, and the efficiency has been documented during actual oil spills such as the “Windy Bay” diesel spill in Alaska (2002), the “Rocknes” heavy fuel oil spill in Bergen, Norway (2004), and also the “Vicuna” heavy fuel oil spill in Brazil (2004).
