Dearest Students and Parents:We are well into the first month of PSR, Confirmation and High School.

Our numbers are down substantially, and yet we have several new students! Some families are coming back into the church and some are new to the area. I am so very glad you have joined us for Religious Education! For those new parents, there are always many ways to get involved so check in if you are able to spend some time with us on Wednesdays or have a talent we could put to good use! Welcome to ALL!!

We all appreciate so very much the awareness and patience in the parking lot while everyone gets used to the new system.

-Drive up and park in the lot closest to the church, then stay in your vehicle until someone comes to take your students’ temperature.

-Masks are required until students get into the classrooms.-We will escort children to classes if needed and make sure everyone gets

there safely! -At pickup time, stay in your vehicle and we will release children as we

identify parents. It’s pretty easy but just very different. Again, thanks for helping us keep

safety first!Parents, please check the links above for schedules and updates for classes.

We are also opening the new PSR Page on the website https://ourladylake.diojeffcity.org and parents have access to all the materials used in class, by grade! Take a look and see what the teachers are up to. It is a work in progress so keep checking back until we all get used to another new way of doing things! It will make the teachers jobs much easier, the students can access for lessons and homework and the site will allow us to go virtual if that becomes necessary because of Covid-19. Many, Many, MANY thanks to Mary Wagemann and Marilee Poulter for developing the platform in ways that are efficient, user friendly and easy to navigate! Since I am in the process of uploading everything for all classes and teachers, give me a few days to catch up on computer time!

We had a Zoom meeting today with some of the catechists, who are the most devoted group of folks, and went over the new information. Thanks to all who were able to make it, and we will schedule regularly until everyone gets what they need on each of their pages. Covid is teaching us all how to adjust, but we are learning new skills and developing talents we might not have otherwise. God promises good comes from everything bad for those who believe! Amen and Praise God!

Blessings to All!Vicki

ourladylake.diojeffcity.org/welcome/ourladylake.diojeffcity.org/welcome/He’s got this, ladies!

by Linda Adams

God’s got this! That’s one of the many things I took away from my first women’s retreat (back when it was called Christ Renews His Parish). I realized, while listening to my fellow parishioners who were leading the retreat, that I was my own worst enemy. I was the one blocking God out of my life. It wasn’t intentional at all, I just didn’t know any better. I decided that weekend to start letting go of my baggage and letting God lead me. (LG)2. Let Go and Let God. I loved that weekend!

That was the beginning of a wonderful journey that has led me to today. I started out on my own, looking for some way to connect with other women in my parish, some way to find support on my faith journey. At the time, I was married with a young son and working full-time, but I was pretty empty. Quite a few years have now passed and I’ve since attended a second weekend and this coming retreat will be my second time on the retreat giving team. What a blessing it has been working with the other ladies on this current team! They are truly my sisters in faith!

I need more sisters, though. Will you be one? Will you let me care for you on October 24 and 25? Will you let me shelter you for a while from the storm all around us? Please come and rest awhile.

DEACON’S CORNER

Have you ever been reading the Bible or listening to Holy Scripture and hear things over and over and ever wonder what they are? Just recently I was reading and meditating on the Liturgy of the Hours in which covenants were mentioned. Now, have we ever wondered just exactly what a covenant is and how many there are? First, a covenant is a solemn agreement between God and all his human creation regarding mutual commitments and guarantees. Second, there are seven covenants. They are:

Adamic Covenant: God’s command not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, pronounced a curse for sin, and spoke of a future provision for man’s redemption (Genesis 3:15).

Noahic Covenant: Made between God and Noah, his family, and the animals in the ark. Genesis 9:11 states, “I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” This covenant included a sign of God’s faithfulness to keep it—the rainbow.

Abrahamic Covenant: First made to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3, promised God’s blessing upon Abraham, to make his name great and to make his offspring’s into a great nation. God vowed to bless the entire world through Abraham’s descendants. Circumcision was the sign that Abraham believed the covenant (Romans 4:11). The fulfillment of this covenant is seen in the creation of the nation of Israel. The worldwide blessing came through Jesus Christ, who was of Abraham’s family line.

Palestinian Covenant: God’s promise to scatter Israel if they disobeyed God, and then restore them at a later time to their land (Deuteronomy 30:1-10). This covenant was fulfilled twice, with the Babylonian Captivity and subse-quent rebuilding of Jerusalem under Cyrus the Great; the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70, followed by the reinstatement of the nation of Israel in 1948.

Mosaic Covenant: Promised the Israelites a blessing for obedience and a curse for disobedience (Deuteronomy 11). Much of the Old Testament recounts the fulfillment of this judgment cycle for sin and later blessing upon atonement and returning to God.

Davidic Covenant: Promised to bless David’s family line and assure an everlasting kingdom (2 Samuel 7:8-16). Jesus is from the family line of David and, as the Son of David, is the fulfillment of this covenant (Luke 1:32-33; Mark 10:47).

New Covenant: This covenant promised that God would forgive sin and have a close and constant relationship with His people (Jeremiah 31:31-34). The promise was first made to Israel and then extended to everyone who has faith in Jesus Christ (Matthew 26:28; Hebrews 9:15).

Clearly, God made firm promises through His covenants. While some are limited to Israel, altogether, God’s covenants establish his worldly plan for us. God’s New Covenant offers salvation by grace through faith. A covenant that is sealed with Jesus Christ’s own blood.

Blessings – Dcn Jim

The rosary is a powerful weapon against all the evils that beset us, especially against the forces that deny the presence of God and the mystery of our Salvation in Jesus Christ. The rosary is the most perfect summary of our faith, giving us ample opportunity to reflect on the story of salvation.

This event will also be live streamed for those who wish to participate from home.

We hope you will join us in praying this simultaneous rosary across our nation!

Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the divine power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. continued from front covertreatment. That is the relativism of the modern age.

I don’t want to pick on philos-ophers. They are as good and bad as anyone else. In the end no one needs philosophy to do bad things. Relativism is just a codification of the behavior of individual human beings who are trying to justify their moral choices.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the publication of St. Pope John Paul’s Encyclical Evangelium Vitae. This document was a response to many things, not the least of which is modern view that there are no things of true value. The Holy Father’s teaching reminds us that the life which God has given creation is a singular grace by which all things must be valued. Human life manifested in each individual human being, completed in human community, and through the Incar-nation united with God “in some fashion with every human being” reveals the incomprehensible dignity of every human person.

The encyclical quotes Guadium et Spes, issued thirty years before, in a long list of sins against human life, perennial evils which had found increasing strength and greater devastation: “Whatever is opposed to life itself, such as any type of murder, genocide, abortion, eutha-nasia, or wilful self-destruction, whatever violates the integrity of the human person, such as mutilation, torments inflicted on body or mind, attempts to coerce the will itself; whatever insults human dignity, such as subhuman living conditions, arbitrary imprisonment, deportation, slavery, prostitution, the selling of women and children; as well as disgraceful working conditions, where people are treated as mere instruments of gain rather than as free and responsible persons; all these things and others like them are infamies indeed. They poison human society, and they do more harm to those who practise them than to those who suffer from the injury. Moreover, they are a supreme

dishonour to the Creator” Now, twenty-five years on, despite the progress in ways to feed the hungry, cure the sick, clothe the naked, and give shelter to the abandoned, there have been a commensurate increase in the diabolical ways we can twist the new sciences to give new power and control to the same evils with which we have afflicted our brothers and sisters.

St. John Paull II makes the moral choice crystal clear: “The deliberate decision to deprive an innocent human being of his life is always morally evil and can never be licit either as an end in itself or as a means to a good end. It is in fact a grave act of disobedience to the moral law, and indeed to God himself, the author and guarantor of that law; it contradicts the funda-mental virtues of justice and charity. ‘Nothing and no one can in any way permit the killing of an innocent human being, whether a fetus or an embryo, an infant or an adult, an old person, or one suffering from an incurable disease, or a person who is dying. Furthermore, no one is permitted to ask for this act of killing, either for himself or herself or for another person entrusted to his or her care, nor can he or she consent to it, either explicitly or implicitly. Nor can any authority legitimately recommend or permit such an action’.”

During the month of October we are called to celebrate life as a gift from God. To truly value the gift of life from God, we must devote prayer and study, above all a study of the Sacred Scriptures and the Tradition of the Church, especially the recent teachings regarding the protection of life. I urge everyone to read Evangelium Vitae. It’s validity and relevance has only increased. I encourage everyone to pray with more intention for the protection of life. And I recommend that everyone examine their consciences and their own actions that have either allowed life to flourish or diminished the dignity of a human person.
