Our group is going to convince you that hydropower is the best choice for Leland Public Schools to use. There are many reasons that hydropower would work well in the area that we live in.

• U.S. used 10% hydropower for electricity in 2003

• 45,000 dams have already been built

• 24 countries depend on hydropower for water

• Today 19% of the world’s total supply of electricity comes from hydropower

• Grand Coulee Dam in Washington has made over 9 billion dollars after all paid costs

• Tucurui Dam in Brazil has generating costs of about $0.05 per Kilowatt Hour

• Dams provide flood control and water for irrigation-multiple uses encourages dam building.

• People are drawn to water, so the hydropower greatly supports all surrounding people.

• Many dams have already been developed and more are still being built

• Hydropower dams create recreational areas where fish and other wildlife can thrive

• Power generated by moving water does not create pollutants or carbon dioxide

• Millions of people use the water from these dams-without them, they would not have a water source

We only have 60 years left for drilling oils and natural gases and 250 for coal. Don’t just sit there and think about how it needs to change, get up and help to change it. Hydropower is Leland’s future.
