Faith Formation Year 2018-2019 for Children & Youth It’s that time again to sign-up for our children and youth programs. If your family has not received the new sign-up forms and information by mail, please drop by or call the office for a packet. The year begins as follows:

►Wednesday, September 19: K thru 8th Grade Faith Formation begins at 6:15. We begin in the church – parents/children/youth. ►Sunday, September 23: Family Picnic to Kick Off the New Year will be held from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Paradise Beach on A1A

►Sunday, September 23: 9th thru 12th Grade Faith Formation Begins at 7:15 PM. We begin in the hall – parents and youth. Beloved, as we continue our New Evangelization, it’s important to stress the place of Jesus in the work of Evangelization. This is important for PRAYER

and PREACHING (cf. 1Cor 1:22-23). Many non-Catholic Christians are confused with our love for saints. They think following Jesus means no need for saints. They are completely out of order. Pope John Paul II clarifies, “Christ is the one mediator between God and mankind …. No one, therefore, can enter into communion with God except through Christ, by the working of the Holy Spirit. Christ's one, universal mediation, far from being an obstacle on the journey toward God, is the way established by

God himself, a fact of which Christ is fully aware. Although participated forms of mediation of different kinds and degrees are not excluded, they acquire meaning and value only from Christ's own mediation, and they cannot be understood as parallel or complementary to his” (Redemptoris Missio, 5). Simply put, we have Jesus as the one mediator (cf. John 14:6; Acts 4:12; 1Tim 2:5); so the saints can pray for us ‘In His Name’ (cf. John 14:13-14; James 5:16). Hence, our different devotions to the saints – St. Martha, St. Jude, etc (cf. 1Cor 11:1). The saints know how to pray better than us; so no one should tell Mary or the Apostles, “Please, pray for me, but remember to do so in Jesus’ name!” Jesus did not say, “Throw away My saints.” Jesus did not work alone; He ministered in company of His chosen instruments. In the same way, in Heaven, Jesus is not alone; He reigns in company of His saints (cf. Matt 19:28; John 14:3; Rev 20:4-6). This is what Protestants and Evangelicals fail to appreciate. Jesus Himself said saints are compatible with the Ministry of His Church and ordered we should speak about saints wherever the Gospel is proclaimed throughout the world (cf. Mark 14:3-9). New Evangelization Charismatic Prayer and Bible Study Ministries (Tuesdays 7:00pm or Wednesdays 10:00am) is also dedicated for prayer for different needs and deliverance. BIBLE VERSE FOR THE WEEK: “And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her” (Mark 14:9). El Rincón del Pastor Amados, a medida que continuamos nuestra Nueva Evangelización, es importante enfatizar el papel de Jesús en el trabajo de la Evangelización. Esta mediación suya única y universal, lejos de ser obstáculo en el camino hacia Dios, es la vía establecida por Dios mismo, y de ello Cristo tiene plena conciencia. Aun cuando no se excluyan mediaciones parciales, de cualquier tipo y orden, éstas sin embargo cobran significado y valor únicamente por la mediación de Cristo y no pueden ser entendidas como paralelas y complementarias (Redemptoris Missio, 5). En pocas palabras, tenemos a Jesús como el único mediador (ver Juan 14: 6, Hechos 4:12, 1Tim 2: 5); para que los santos puedan orar por nosotros 'EN SU NOMBRE' (véase Juan 14: 13-14; Santiago 5:16). Por tal, nuestras diferentes devociones a los santos: Santa Marta, San Judas, etc. (véase 1Cor 11: 1). Los santos saben cómo orar mejor que nosotros; así que nadie debería pedirle a María o a los Apóstoles: "¡Por favor, oren por mí, pero recuerden hacerlo en el nombre de Jesús!". Jesús no dijo: "Descarten Mis santos". Jesús no trabajó solo; Él ministró en compañía de Sus instrumentos elegidos. De la misma manera, en el Cielo, Jesús no está solo; Él reina en compañía de Sus santos (ver Mateo 19:28, Juan 14: 3, Apoc 20: 4-6). Esto es lo que los protestantes y evangélicos no pueden entender. Jesús mismo dijo que los santos son compatibles con el ministerio de su Iglesia y ordenó que deberíamos hablar de los santos en todo el mundo, donde el Evangelio se haya proclamado (véase Marcos 14: 3-9). The Youth Group had a GREAT day at Blue Springs State Park on August 11. They even had a mama and her day -old baby manatee swim by! The youth group will begin their Sunday meetings again on September 23. All youth in 9th—12th grades are invited. Saint Monica - August 27 also known as Monica of Hippo, was an early Christian saint and the mother of St. Augustine of Hippo. We are a Discipleship Parish! We host a weekly soup kitchen, several AA groups, health fairs, Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts, Juvenile Justice, and we are a Red Cross Shelter. We also help support our own SVDP. In order to continue to be a good disciple parish we need your support in treasures. We incur many monthly expenses by being good disciples to our ministries and community. HOUSEHOLDS IN GOD’S SERVICE In the ancient world, “household” was a wide-reaching concept. When Joshua today speaks of his household serv-ing the Lord, he meant not just those people who lived in-side his walls or those related to him by blood or marriage; he meant slaves or servants and their families, and anyone indebted to him in any way. Even his livestock and other possessions would be consecrated to service of God. In our world, we value allowing individuals their freedom to choose how they live, and wouldn’t think of offering our pets to the service of God. But, as we discern our vocation as disciples baptized into Christ, we can come to realize how far-ranging the “households” of our lives still are: how we act toward our spouses, children, roommates or anyone we live with; our behavior with neighbors; or in public as we encounter many “strangers” every day in stores or traffic who suddenly are “next door” to us. How can we use our time, our resources, or gifts for selfless rea-sons rather than personal gain? No matter what life our witness to the Good News calls us to, we all have a “household” that must be consecrated to service of the Lord our God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

CASAS AL SERVICIO DE DIOS Antiguamente, la palabra “familia” tenía un sig-nificado muy amplio. Cuando Josué habla hoy de que su familia servirá al Señor, no se refería solo a las personas que vivían dentro de sus paredes ni a sus parientes de sangre o políticos; se refería a los esclavos o criados y sus familias y cualquier persona que estuviera en deuda con él por algún motivo. Incluso su ganado y demás bie-nes debían consagrarse a servir a Dios. En nuestro mun-do, valoramos mucho la libertad de los individuos para elegir de qué manera vivir y no se nos ocurriría poner a nuestras mascotas al servicio de Dios. Pero, al discernir nuestra vocación como discípulos bautizados en Cristo, llegamos a comprender la diversidad de las “familias” de nuestra vida: la manera en que obramos con nuestros cónyuges, hijos, compañeros de habitación o con quien sea que vivamos; nuestro comportamiento con los vecinos o en público ya que cada día nos topamos con muchos “extraños” en los negocios o en la calle, quienes de re-pente se convierten en “el vecino”. ¿De qué manera po-demos usar nuestro tiempo, recursos o dones con fines desinteresados en vez de con el fin de obtener algún bene-ficio personal?
