Father Francisco’s Weekly Reflection

“I appeal to you, therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bod-ies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual wor-ship. Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and accepta-ble and perfect” (Romans 12:1-2). St. Paul’s exhortation is a beautiful invitation to not imitate the world. We should be willing to lay our life down as a sacrifice for the injustices of the world. The world says we should be comfortable and not suffer. But, suffering is a part of the human condition that we cannot get away from. Jesus came and offered his suffering for us to be able to be reconciled with our Father in heaven. The Lord showed us the way. Jesus states, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it” Mt 16:24-25). There is power in our suffering when it is united to Christ. Never say that we have nothing to offer. We can unite our suffering to the Cross with Christ and where it will bear much fruit. I am not saying that it will be easy, because suffering is hard. But, we can not imagine the efficacy of the offer-ing of our suffering united with Jesus. The Lord’s suffering and triumph over sin and death is the central tenant of our faith, from which the sacraments flow. Nev-er think that you nothing to offer to God. We can offer our struggles, we all have them, and our joys in thanksgiving for all we have been given. We can offer our suffering and joy for peace in the midst of the violence that is taking place in the world. We can pray for an end to abortion and end the pandemic. We do not need to go looking for suffering as we all know, but we should not run from it when it comes. I remember the scene in the movie, The Passion of the Christ, where Jesus embraces His cross and tells Mary, “Behold I make all things new.” He knew the path he must take and has shown us the way to glory. May we all make our lives a living sacrifice with Christ! Our Lady of Guadalupe…Ora pro nobis!

bueno, agradable y perfecto ”(Romanos 12: 1-2).

debemos estar cómodos y no sufrir.

a Jesús.

Nunca pienses

Cristo! Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe… ¡Ora pro nobis!
