TOGETHER WE SERVE: Catholics making a difference

Did You Know…?

“The Together We Serve Mission… the people of the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton join together annually with Together We Serve to share their financial gifts in charity with those in need at home, in Canada, and abroad.”

“The Guiding Principles of TWS is committed to:

Growing givers’ hearts - to be con-cerned for people’s growth in faith as well as their giving.

Unity in our charitable outreach

Trust in God’s abundance

Reflecting the beauty of Christ’s love for us and the beauty of the living Gospel”

www.caedm.ca/WeServe

GRACE AT MEALS: Grace Before Meals This Week:

Leader: Lord Jesus, we thank you for your Word. You call your followers to deny themselves and take up their daily cross.

All: Help us to embrace the Cross in our lives with trust in your love and mercy.

Together: Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

After the Meal: We give you thanks, Almighty God, for all your gifts, who live and reign now and forever. Amen.

MARY’S GARDEN: We are looking for volunteers to help water Mary’s garden over the summer months. If you are interested in help-ing with this beautiful project please contact the office.

SAINT OF THE MONTH:

Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati

Called the Man of Eight Beatitudes by Pope JPII

Feast Day: July 4

Prayer to Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati

Father, You gave to the young Pier Giorgio Frassati the joy of meeting Christ and of living his faith in service of the poor and the sick. Through his intercession, may we, too, walk the path of the Beatitudes and follow the example of his generosity, spreading the spirit of the Gospel in society. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

EDUCATION CENSUS: Please consider giving a couple worth-while hours to providing service to your neighbour through an Alberta Education Census during the month of July. Pres-ently, many people in our community are denied access to Catholic Education as they are non-residents to the Greater St. Albert Catholic School Board. As it is a constitutional right to receive faith in-struction as a minority, the parents here are following a provincial process to gain access to French Immersion Catholic and English Catholic Schools. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and a simple training session will be provided. Please contact the Census Coordinator, Melissa Phillips at 780-616-1525 or [email protected]

WHAT IS RCIA? Do you feel a gentle tugging towards getting to know Jesus more deeply through the Sacraments? Are you sens-ing a call to become a Catholic? Perhaps it is time to consider the RCIA…

The RCIA, which stands for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, is a process through which non-baptized men and women over 18 enter the Catholic Church. It includes several stages marked by study, prayer and rites at Mass. Participants in the RCIA are known as catechumens. They undergo a process of conversion as they study the Gospel, profess faith in Jesus and the Catholic Church, and receive the sacra-ments of Baptism, Confirmation, Recon-ciliation and Holy Eucharist. The RCIA process follows the ancient practice of the Church and was restored by the Se-cond Vatican Council as the normal way for adults to prepare for baptism.

RCIA sessions begin on Thursday, Sep-tember 8 at 7 pm in the Marguerite d’Youville Room, and are held every Thursday until May 25. You are welcome to contact Ena at 587 879 5911 to register, and for more information. However, if you would like a taste of Catholicism before then, please join us any Wednes-day at 7 pm in the same room for Toes in the Water, a way for non-Catholics and Catholics alike to get together to learn more about our faith. Toes in the Water does not require any registration; it is a drop-in evening of discussion and learn-ing.

SAVE THE DATE: Please mark your calendar for these Parish wide events coming up in the fall: September 11th—Parish Picnic after 11 am Mass in Kingswood Park October 15th—Parish 25th Anniver-sary Potluck Dinner after the 5 pm Mass in the Parish Hall.
