A Wise Old Owl There was an old owl that lived in an oak. Every day he saw incidents happening around him. Yesterday he saw a boy helping an old man to carry a heavy basket. Today he saw a girl shouting at her mother. The more he saw the less he spoke.

As he spoke less, he heard more. He heard people talking and telling stories. He heard a woman saying that an elephant jumped over a fence. He also heard a man saying that he had never made a mistake.

The old owl had seen and heard about what happened to people. Some became better and some became worse. But the old owl had become wiser each and every day.

Belling The Cat

Let us enjoy reading this story of Belling The Cat.

There lived many mice in a grocer’s shop. They ate plenty of grains and the grocer suffered heavy loss. So, he brought a fat cat to catch the mice. The mice were worried. They held a meeting to drive away the cat.

A smart-looking mouse suggested that the cat moved softly and swiftly. They decided to tie a bell round its neck. So that when the cat moves, the mice would become aware of the cat. All the mice agreed to this decision.

The old mouse said, “Can you tell me who is to bell the cat?"

There was no reply.

Their decision is not yet executed.

A milkman became very wealthy through dishonest means. He had to cross a river daily to reach the city where his customers lived. He mixed the water of the river generously with the milk that he sold for a good profit. One day he went around collecting the dues in order to celebrate the wedding of his son. With the large amount thus collected he purchased plenty of rich clothes and glittering gold ornaments. But while crossing the river the boat capsized and all his costly purchases were swallowed by the river. The milk vendor was speechless with grief. At that time he heard a voice that came from the river, “Do not weep. What you have lost is only the illicit gains you earned through cheating your customers. From Editor Hello Children. The Disobedient Boy There was a boy who was very fond of cashew nuts. His mother gave him a few nuts. The boy always wanted for more nuts. He always asked his mother "Mummy, give me some more nuts". But his mother always replied "Too many nuts is not good, my son. If you eat too many at a time you will get stomach-pain" . One day his mother had been to the market and no one was at home except the boy. He went into the kitchen and took the cashew nut jar. He ate and ate unto the last nut. The next day he twitched with stomach-pain.

At Goldscholars College and Schools, we encourage After School Club for the furtherance of Musical Instrument, Ballet Dancing, Swimming and Creative Arts. Although the participation in these clubs was voluntary during the previous sessions, we will encourage all our learners to join at least one of the clubs as part of our efforts to make our learners to be well rounded, mature and creative. It is hoped that during the next session, After School Clubs would take place between 2pm and 4pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

VALENTINE DAY

PARENTS FORUM On the 9th of June 2018, we had the Parents Forum at the school where parents, staff and the management came together to discuss the progress of our students. We had twenty three parents in attendance. We discussed the following:

On the performance of students; most parents were happy with academic performance and character of their children. On the next graduation and award party; parents discussed on how to assist the school. Some Parents spoke about activities and we explained that, on a weekly basis, we have one activity or the other and the students are fully involved. We spoke on the presence of all students during the assembly and urged parents to allow their wards to attend by coming to school punctually. We discussed security and implored parents to avoid okada to pick students from the school.

Instead, parents should make use of the school bus. Parents who want to use okada should write a letter stating that they allowed it and the name of the appropriate okada owner be given.

It was discussed that After School Club was important for every student. It was agreed that every student should register for at least one of the Clubs. We spoke on the school uniform and implore the parents to buy uniform and never to allow students to wear rags. We mentioned that the uniform was part of the school brand and every parent should ensure that they provide uniform for their ward every session. For security and learning purposes, the parents agreed that there was need to have a CCTV system.

The parents were told by the school to always listen to their children who are of impressionable age and would have a lot of doubts to clear. Parents should assist the students with their homework and ensure that they read the ‘communication book’ so as to check on what assignments were given to their wards.

The Security Team, headed by the Head of

School, has the onerous task of ensuring the

safety of personnel, learners and equipment.

Please ensure that you register your ward

every day when they come to the school and

log them out after the day’s work. You may

reach the team at

[email protected]. Or send sms to

us at 08188334668 or 08186815981

Looking back, we recognize the young ones that have passed through this school. In particular, some graduates of the Nursery Section in 2013 who are now graduating to the College this July 2018.

We are proud of these pupils who have matured in character and learning over the years. Remember DEPID and keep excelling.
