PARENTS’VOICES
Financial+ScholarshipsIn the college exploration process, what is your greatest need? The knowledge of the steps to follow to
be able to get the most financial aid and how to attain better grades in their studies.
To have information of what career they can take or how as parents, we can finance [their education].
It is important to further our education but most of us can’t afford it. People need to know as much as they can about financial aid.
Provide more information about how to get more scholarships and grants.
Parents’voices I think that the job that you are doing of being concerned
for the families individually is much better, because this way we have more opportunity to know how we can help our children to go to college or to graduate, and these workshops have helped us a lot.
These classes have taught me and were very beneficial because I did not know anything. They guided me so that my son can go to college.
I want to thank the people that make possible that we have the correct information so that our kids have the opportunity to finish their career. What Mrs. Rocio is doing is very good; I don’t think she can do any better.

ASSESSMENTReaching Goals
Anassessmentscene…TAKE‐ONE
Programassessment• Establish program objectives• What do you want participants to KNOW, VALUE/FEEL, DO as a result of attending the program?
• Talk through terminology ‐consider Spanish‐English translation
• Select the type of assessment items that are fitting • short answer, multiple choice, rating, etc.
• Give the assessment a “test‐run”• Did the assessment tool provide you with the information you were seeking:
• Meeting objectives – did learning occur? • Feedback on how to improve the program
• Revise the assessment tool
ExampleofassessmentThe location of the workshop was easy to find.I was greeted and welcomed when I arrived.
The space for the workshop was comfortable. The workshop leader was prepared.
The workshop leader was able to relate well to participants.Today’s workshop provided good information for preparing my student for college.I learned things from other participants (parents) who attended the workshop.
The discussion times were valuable.
I felt comfortable participating in this workshop.I was able to get answers to my questions.
• What one thing did you learn today that you may not have learned if you did not attend this workshop?
• What information do you still need to help in preparing your student for college?
• What one thing would you change about this workshop?
• How did you learn about the opportunity to attend this workshop?
Learningthroughconductingassessment• Wish we had done this earlier!• Participants are already motivated to attend.• re‐construct some items to detect nuances associated within the responses
• create new items to understand the real meaning behind the responses
• Continue to define objectives and outcomes
Outreachsuccessstories• What gains are you making through outreach for your campus and community?
