Alumni Spotlight

Arvin ChuaServed as: Executive Director (2008-2009), Co-Director of Public relations (2007-2008)Graduated from Cal in 2009, Major in Political Economy with an emphasis in Global labor Diversity

WhErE iS hE NOW?arvin works with Wells Fargo as a Phone Banker. he pursued this position as a result of his history in sales and the encouragement from his professional networks. Given that he is a 2009 graduate, he’s only been working for a total of one year since graduation --Wells Fargo for 3 months and a little over 8 months with a previous sales position at imperial in-dustrial Supply (a web-based retail company). Within this past year, he has easily strength-ened his network and actually jumped on the opportunity to join Wells Fargo after being recommended to the position by his former colleague at imperial industrial Supply. he looks forward to investing his career within Wells Fargo by working towards the legal Order Processing department where he feels he can best utilize his skills.

arViN’S aDViCE FOr CUrrENT P4 MEMBErS: “Be proud of your hard work because no one can take that from you. have fun and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Take advantage of all career fairs at Cal -- op-portunities with big companies DO NOT come easy once you’ve graduated.”

FaVOriTE qUOTE: “The one who doesn’t fall doesn’t stand up” – Fedor Emelianenko.

What better way to spend Valentine’s Day

weekend than to watch the Golden States Warriors

take on number two draft pick, Kevin Durant, and

the Oklahoma City Thun-der? On February 13, 2011 P4 and P4 friends went to

Oracle arena to watch one of the closest games of the

season. Those who attended were able to go down to the

lower level to watch play-ers from both teams during

courtside shoot-around, prior to the game. it served as a great way to bond with

each other while enjoying an exciting game and, for

some, celebrating a big win for the Warriors.

Jesi Marquez Position: Co-Director of Philanthropy and Com-munity ServiceBirthday: March 16Expected Grad Year: May 2012Major/Minor/Concentration: Double Major in legal Studies and asian american Studies Post college plans: after completing my under-graduate career at UC Berkeley, i plan to take some time off and then attend law school. i plan on pursuing a career in advocating for under-served and underprivileged communities while promoting advocacy and social justice in aPi communities.Pre-Professional Tip: Always have a firm hand-shake - it is your lasting first-impression on the people you meet. You might even get a comment or pleasant reaction from the person!Favorite place to kick it with friends (in Berke-ley): i enjoy hanging out with my friends when we’re just chilling at someone’s apartment. Otherwise, we would be eating out at different places all over Berkeley. Song you have been listening to a lot lately: “Sweet Disposition” by The Temper Trapa movie is being made about your life, who do you want to play you? if a movie is being made about my life, i want to play the role of myself because there is not enough Filipin@ representa-tion in the media. however, i wouldn’t mind if anne hathaway wanted to step in my shoes as well. as Co-Director of Philanthropy and Community Service, what is your goal/s for P4 in this 2010-2011 school year? as Co-Director of PaCS, my goals for P4 for this 2010-2011 school year is to strengthen and expand our external networks with non-profit organizations and to have a suc-cessful golf tournament!

Dana CruzPosition: Co-Director of Philanthropy and Com-munity Service Birthday: September 17Expected Grad Year: May 2013Major/Minor/Concentration: Political Science Post college plans: i plan on entering into the air Force possibly as a Judge advocate (or military lawyer) for a while and then retire into a civilian private practice and/or later work as a legislative assistant for a political office. Pre-Professional Tip: honestly there a bunch of tips, but the number one rule of thumb in any professional setting is to BE CONFiDENT. Confidence can lead to the firm hand shakes, the strong tone, that credibility you will exude, and that lasting impression that sets you apart from the rest. Favorite place to kick it with friends (in Berkeley): Smart aleks (i love their avocado hamburgers and being surrounded by other self-proclaimed nerds). Song you have been listening to a lot lately: “Sing”- My Chemical romancea movie is being made about your life, who do you want to play you? if anyone is going to get paid and make millions off of playing me, it’s going to be me. :)as Co-Director of Philanthropy and Community Service, what is your goal/s for P4 in this 2010-2011 school year? 1) an OUTSTaNDiNG Golf Tournament and 2) increased community service programming (who doesn’t like doing those warm and fuzzy community service projects).
