    FROM THE DESK

    The week is finally starting with lots of activities for you to

    attend as Eid ul Azha is celebrated around the world. Already

    Muslims from all over the world have started the journey to

    Mecca for Hajj (Pilgrimage). In Australia, Eid will be celebrated

    Insha Allah on 16th October. The dates and timings of prayers

    in Perth are on the last page.

    Please do visit Eid ul Azha Festival arranged by City of Vincent in

    collaboration with a number of Muslim organisations including

    our group and enjoy the performance of Pakistani band.

    Pakistan Hockey Team Insha Allah arrives on Wednesday and

    we are planning an event on 20th

    October with our members.

    Following this our next event will be Matters of Heart, a

    poetry/prose night on 16th

    November at Bentley Community

    Centre. Details in the next issue however we are pleased to

    announce that Sir Yaar M Khan Azhar has accepted our

    invitation to preside the event. If you want to participate in the

    event do let us know. And finally we are reproducing a letter

    received from the Cancer Council on page 10 & 11.

    GROUP UPDATE

    The Banner: Our new banner is ready to get printed and if everything goes alright it will be

    displayed at Hockey Stadium on 19th

    and 20th

    October when matches will be telecast liveworldwide. Thanks to all who contributed their photographs and apologies to those who could no

    get in because of the quality of their images.

    Donations Received: Last week we requested for donations for a Pakistani family in crisis throug

    our facebook page. A donation of 900 dollars has been received till date which will be forwarded t

    the concerned person on Monday.

    A donation of 156 crayon boxes from a staff member at the University of Western Australia was

    received which is infact a treat for 150 students studying in the school selected for our Australia

    Day 2014 project.

    For the Beenai project four pair of glasses have been received this week again through UWA.

    Vincent Celeberates Eid:Visit PIA stall for Barfi, Chana Chaat and chicken patties. A number of

    performances including dance and Pakistani band will be entertaining from 114.00 pm.

    Participate in Global Hand washing: The Children's Global Hygiene Foundation have obtained

    permission from the Guinness Book of Records to attempt to break the world record for the numb

    of people from different nationalities washing their hands at one time in one location. At the same

    time it will be a fundraiser for Telethon (gold coin donation). The attempt will be made through th

    foundation's children's hygiene initiative GrimeStoppers. This event will also be a celebration of

    our multicultural community in Perth so remember 1.00 pm Northbridge Piazza on 20th October.

    OUR NOMINEE FOR 2013 -2014

    Dabeer Shikrani is studying in year 8 at Mirabooka Senior School. He has shown remarkable talent

    in both indoor and outdoor sports. He plays soccer, Cricket, Tennis, Basketball and chess. In 2012

    he won school champion in year 7 at Boyare Primary school who won in Interschool chess against

    26 teams. He has not been beaten in Interschool chess for 2 years i.e. 2011 & 2012. This implies

    that he was unbeaten in twenty-eight games in all. At the same time he is an exceptional soccer

    player. The soccer team that Dabeer plays in is proud of his achievements. His soccer team:

    Maylands won the 2013 Under 14s north division 3 Cup while he was playing as Right Mid

    fielder. At this young age he also tries to mentor young kids from different cultural backgrounds so

    as to enable them to participate and compete in sports and not to mention still devotes considerable

    time to studies.

    NATIONAL DRUG RESEARCHINSTITUTE Thursday 17 October 2013, 4.30pm-6pm

    This is a fortnightly newsletter to keep community informed of whats happening in Pakistan and in Australia with a

    special focus on Western Australia at this time. We acknowledge that this newsletter is disseminated from Noongar

    NDRI hosts an annual Postgraduate Student Information Evening to discuss opportunities for

    postgraduate research, casual work and scholarships in the alcohol and other drugs field.

    The informal event is primarily for Honours, Masters or PhD students interested in researching

    drug or alcohol issues or looking for a research topic. The relaxed setting allows students to meet

    and talk about possible research projects direct with prospective co-supervisors.

    Information on scholarships is also provided, and opportunities for part-time and voluntaryresearch work are discussed. Light refreshments will be served.
