The Pastor’s Corner
How well do you know that person? How well do you know your friend, your coworker, your cousin?
How well do you know Jesus? Have you been coming to church for a year now, ten years, since you were born? If
somebody were to ask you to describe Jesus, what would you say?
Jesus is asking us that today, and with Peter, who answers for us, we discover that we get it wrong: we don’t really
know who Jesus is.
At first, Peter seems to win the round, confirming that Jesus is the Christ, the one sent by God to save all of us. But in
the next paragraph of the Gospel he turns around and reveals he doesn’t know who Jesus really is: once Jesus starts
describing that saving the world means suffering and the cross, Peter doesn’t recognize that at all.
How about us? Do we recognize the presence of God when things are going well in our lives, when we see God
blessing us? Do we not recognize him when everything seems to be going wrong, when we are brought into
suffering and the cross?
Jesus wants us to know him, to know the freedom and life that he brings. But he needs us to know him
fully: not just when things are rosy, but when things get real. Are you willing to get to know Jesus better, or
will you not know him when things become difficult?

FAITH FORMATION As summer winds down, we are busy making materials and
preparing our atrium for the children. Would you please pray for our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program here at St. Isidore? Please pray for our families, for our catechists, and especially for the children as we embark on a new year of learning about Jesus, our Good Shepherd, and drawing ever closer to Him. If you have any questions or would like
information about CGS, please email Michelle Knox [email protected]
How does our parish attract inquirers each year who consider becoming Catholic? The short answer is you! When any parish has many inquirers year after year, it is the fruit of the Holy Spirit as parish members open their hearts to welcome others. Members of a welcoming and evangelizing community take seriously their call to share the Divine message of salvation. It happens in parish families, in the workplace, in gatherings with friends and neighbors, and in daily contacts. Give thanks to God as he continuously strengthens each of us who seek to do his will in offering a gentle, humble, and clear welcome to the Catholic faith. "Go out into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15)
EL RINCON DEL PASTOR
¿Qué tan bien conoces a las personas? ¿Qué tan bien conoces a tu amigo, tu compañero de trabajo, tu
primo? ¿Qué tan bien conoces a Jesús?
