Sacramental Program
Our Sacramental Program resumes next
weekend October 17th at 4pm at
St John XXIII Mass Centre.
We ask our Parish Community to pray for
the children as they resume their journey to
receiving the sacraments of
Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Eucharist.
A Call to Consecrated Life
Consecrated life, more than ever today, is called to
become a fire that ignites other fires and “lights up the heart” (Benedict XVI). As we set apart this weekend
for the celebration of Consecrated life we thank God for the many men and women from our archdiocese
and throughout the universal Church who have
responded to the prompting of the Holy Spirit to be a
Consecrated person. Let us also pray that they may
experience the support of our spiritual family as they
continue their growth in holiness.
We are also called upon to pray that the Lord will inspire more people to take up this vocation in the Church. When a person accepts the call of Christ to be religious, their life is changed. But so are the lives of thousands of
people who will be touched through their ministry.
Completing this virtuous circle is the prayer of people for vocations to serve God and his people in different ways, combined with the encouragement of those they know who are considering such a vocation. As a parish we are regularly praying for vocations to Consecrated life before all the masses at weekends. This is only just one aspect of our duty as Christians in fostering the vocation to
Consecrated life. We need to inspire and help people to discern their vocations to Consecrated life. This requires that all of us pray for those who are discerning their
vocation and by our acts help them to enter consciously into a process of discovery; to make a conscious choice to seek out the Lord’s will for them in life.
The Church, throughout her rich history, has always
depended on men and women, who by their generous witness have devoted their entire lives to Christ and his Church: “Yes, their entire lives.” And through this
devotion and subsequent intimacy, the Gospel has been preached, lived and shared throughout the world.
With religious orders, for example, we have seen a growth of such important ministries, whether it be with education, hospitals or care for the dying. We need
religious men and women, Consecrated men and
women, who commit their lives to the cause of the
gospel. Just as the Church needs married couples, the Church also needs single persons, men and women to unite and give their lives to the service of God in the Church, bound by poverty, chastity and obedience.
The world today needs men and women who can say with great devotion and love that we are moved by the love that Jesus showed and we want to be a star that flickers in the middle of the people’s night, attracting
everyone to the centrality of life, and converting us into fire that ignites other fires. Let us then, pray for more and moreVocations to Consecrated life.

Sharing is Caring In this Gospel we understand that the young man’s possessions were very important to him, perhaps even more important than being a follower of Jesus. What are your favorite possessions like- maybe your latest toy or nice new clothing? What is more important having what your friend has or their friendship? The latest toys or fashions for children come and go or get lost, destroyed or worn out, but people, friends and helping others are much more important. Jesus does not say that we shouldn’t have nice things to play with or wear but that these things are not as important as our relationship with God and with one another. We are all called to share what we have and to know that being a follower of Jesus is more important than anything we might own.
Prayer: Lord, you see and remember every act of kindness and generosity and store them in your heart Help me to store up my treasure in heaven, so that I can share everlasting life with you at the end of time. Amen

SPIRITUAL PILGRIMAGE
TO THE HOLY LAND
Not everyone is able to travel to the Holy Land and walk in the footsteps of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. But maybe you can make a spiritual journey while we (the pilgrims who are going on the 25th October) are travelling through the different parts of the land where Jesus walked and so did Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses. If you wish to be part of that Spiritual Journey you can pray with us and for us as we go from one site to the other. You may like to pray and light a candle each day and we will light a candle for you every place we visit. A copy of the journey is at the back of church for you to take home so that you can follow spiritually in the footsteps of Jesus, Mary and Joseph with us. Thank you for being part of our Journey.
