They have written FBIDirector Robert Mueller to demandan explanation why such a man —the member of a “hate group” — hadbeen allowed to speak to FBI agentsand to rece ive the d i rec tor ’sassurance that such a horrible thingwould never happen again. CAIR officials figure our ten-minute attention span has lapsed, andthat we’ve probably forgotten by nowthat, in the 2007-08 prosecution ofthe Holy Land Foundation (HLF) —

a case in which several Islamists wereconvicted in a scheme that pouredmillions of dollars into the coffers ofthe terrorist organization Hamas —CAIR was named as, and shown tobe, an unindicted co-conspirator.CAIR reckons that the heat is off, soit’s back on the “Islamophobia”soapbox, demanding an apology fromFBI director Robert Mueller. An apology for what? The FBI’sJoint Terrorism Task Forces had thetemerity to invite Robert Spencer —one of the nation’s leading experts onIslamist ideology — to lecture federalagents on Islamist ideology. Spencer’s lecture departed from thegovernment’s “religion of peace”dogma, which holds that there is noIslamist aggression, that there is nocivilizational jihad to destroy theWest from within (never mind thatCAIR’s progenitor, the MuslimBrotherhood, has bragged about its“sabotage” campaign), and thatterrorism is not merely unconnectedto Islam but, in fact, is anti-Islamic.According to this thinking, Islamistgroups like CAIR have a monopolyon what Americans — includingAmerican law-enforcement andintelligence agents — are permittedto hear about Islam from academic,media, and government sources. Nodissenting views are permitted, nomatter how steeped the dissentersmay be in Islamic doctrine and nomatter how much these dissentsaccord with what your lyin’ eyes areseeing. [...] CAIR’s purpose is to further whatthe Muslim Brotherhood calls its“grand jihad” to destroy Americafrom within. That is why it isconsistently a cheerleader for Islamistterrorists and a thorn in the side ofAmerican national security, opposingevery sensible measure to protect ourhomeland.“Islam isn’t in America to be equal toany other faith, but to becomedominant,” Ahmad is quoted assaying in 1998. “The Koran, theMuslim book of scripture, should bethe highest authority in America, andIslam the only accepted religion onearth.” A key tactic in carrying out thissupremacist agenda is to suppress its

critics. With their media acumen,CAIR operatives know there isnothing more debilitating for a publicf igure in America than to beportrayed as a racist or a bigot.Islamists have thus coined the phrase“Islamophobe” to stigmatize thosewho dare speak forthrightly about theextremely troubling aspects ofIslamic scripture, particularly ofsharia, Islam’s legal and politicalframework. We are not, it bears emphasizing,speaking about people who lie aboutIslam or smear all Muslims asterrorists. Islamists are targeting thetruth-tellers. If they can intimidatetheir critics into silence, they haveinched yet closer to the goal ofsupplanting our First Amendmentwith their sharia, which condemns as“ b l a s p h e m y ” a n y s p e e c h o rexpression that casts Islam in a poorlight. Blasphemy can be savagelypunished — and, in contrast to theWestern idea of defamation, truth isno defense. Thus is CAIR trying to intimidate theFBI into ostracizing Robert Spencer.As he demonstrates daily at JihadWatch, the invaluable s i te hefounded, he is effective and immuneto Islamist scare tactics. BecauseSpencer won’t quiet down, CAIRofficials have concluded that it willbe necessary to have the U.S.government silence him. They knowthe government, the FBI in particular,has a history of being overlysolicitous toward Islamist apologists.They a re banking on ge t t ingsatisfaction out of Mueller, andthey’ve brought out the big guns toturn up the heat. Their letter has nowbeen signed by Grievance Industryeminence Jesse Jackson (who betterto give sensitivity lessons than theguy who labeled New York City“Hymietown”?) and by such groupsas the Islamic Society of NorthAmerica (another unindicted co-conspirator in the Hamas case, butone for which Obama-administrationm a j o r d o m o V a l e r i e J a r r e t tnonetheless gave the keynote addressat its 2009 annual convention). If any party is owed an apology orexplanation from our government, itis the American people — over the

government’s courtship of CAIR. Foryears, even though the JusticeDepartment was in possession ofinformation showing the key roleCAIR officials played in the MuslimBrotherhood’s Hamas-suppor tnetwork, government agencies,including the FBI, continued turningto CAIR for “liaison” duties. Topbrass forced our law-enforcementagents to endure CAIR-prescribedsensitivity training, and, in the case ofthe Depar tment of HomelandSecurity, even published a CAIRpress release on an agency’s taxpayer-funded website, enabling CAIR topass itself off as a civil-rightsorganization. This went on untilfinally, following the convictions inthe HLF case (to say nothing of theemerging indications that CAIR itselfmay be under investigation), the FBIcut off ties with the group in 2009,citing its Hamas connections. Thatwas a stand for which Mueller wonstrong bipartisan praise on CapitolHill. Here’s hoping he sticks to hisguns. Whyis Israel monitoring these locations?”Sayyed Nasrallah wondered. I can think of a lot of reasons whyIsrael might be monitoring thoseareas that may have little or nothingto do with Hezbullah. The idea thatIsrael ki l led Harir i is beyondridiculous. But the better question – as pointedout by Elder – is whether Hezbullahdid capture the encryption code fortransmissions from Israeli spy planesand whether those codes changedbetween 1997 and 2005. I believe theanswer to that question is that thecodes did change and that Nasrallah’sundated videos are not from 2005.Israel’s first unmanned aerial vehiclesquadron, called the 200 squadron,was operated from Palmachim airbase beginning in 1971. The 200 squadron was established in1 9 7 1 t o o p e r a t e u n m a n n e dreconnaissance vehicles, the first ofwhich were used in the Yom Kippur

War of 1973. The first aircraft ofthis squadron were remotely pilotedvehicles (RPVs), which werereplaced with upgraded, programmedau top i lo t a i r c ra f t known asunmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in1981. The first UAV was the IAIScout (Zahavan), which was used inthe 1982 Lebanon War. In 1992, thesquadron began operating the IAISearcher (Hugla), a new version ofwhich was produced in 1998 andnamed the IAI Searcher Mk. II(Kochav Lavan). In 2005-2006 IAIHeron and Heron TP (Shoval andEitan) added to the the squadron. Another UAV squadron wasestablished in 2003, 166 squadron.This caused the old IAI Scout(Zahavan) UAVs to begin phase outfrom active duty within the IAF. The Ansariyeh incident did occur. The Israelis’ greatest blunder was thedisastrous naval commando raid onthe coastal village of Ansariyeh, 20miles north of the zone, on 5September in which 16 Israelis werekilled in an ambush staged byHizbollah guerrillas. Although the objective of the raidremains unclear it was nonetheless avery risky undertaking, suggestingpossible over-confidence in the IDFand the security cabinet whichsanctioned the operation. I carry responsibility forthe orders given on the politicallevel.” However, he drew a distinctionbetween political responsibility andthe execution of the operation. “Thepoliticians determined the ‘what’ andthe IDF [Israel Defence Forces]worked out the ‘how’ – and the IDFcarried out the operation.”

The mil i tary did not informpoliticians about the details of theoperational plan, said Barak. “Theysaid, ‘It will be difficult to do it, butwe will do it.’ They did not say howit should be done, and rightfully so.They said there would be distressingimages but they did not say itcouldn’t be done, and they even saidthe opposite.” He added: “If the decision was right,then the gap between what we wantedand what happened is the execution.” Barak, who has a long record ofmilitary service, told the hearing hehad spent most of his l i fe inoperations. “The difference betweensuccess and complications is as thinas a strand of hair. aspects.” A draft of the operational plan waspresented to the seven seniorministers. It covered intelligenceassessments and a range of possibleoutcomes, including “extremescenarios”, according to Barak.“A question was raised of whatshould be done in case of seriousviolence and shooting of RPG [rocket-propelled grenades] and machineguns and firing on our forces in thesea.
