“Taking some of the spirit that was on Moses, the LORD bestowed it on the seventy elders”
Today, some religious people talk about prayer, and God’s presence in our lives, and talents. However, when we
speak about talents from a religious point of view, we always relate them to actions to help others. That we know
as gifts of the Holy Spirit, but it can be misunderstood.
What are you good at? What are your talents? Those are questions that appear constantly in our everyday lives. But,
even more so, in a spiritual way as we follow Jesus, and walk to heaven doing God’s will. We cannot say that we do
not have any talents because God gives talents, or gifts to everyone, to all of his children. The point is that we have
to discover them.
This weekend, we hear in the first reading how God gave the Spirit to seventy elderly people who were able to go
and announce the love of God and to guide the people of Israel. In the same way, God gives us the Holy Spirit
through the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. Receiving these sacraments, is something special, and places
the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, and in our hearts, and we have to pray every day to keep these special
Gifts of the Holy Spirit in our hearts.
According to Pope Francis, The Spirit himself is “the gift of God” he is a gift of God, and he in turn communicates
various spiritual gifts to those who receive him. The Church identifies seven gifts of the Holy Spirit as: wisdom,
understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. The number seven which symbolically
speaks of fullness and completeness refer to those which we learn about, when we prepare for the Sacrament of
Confirmation, and which we invoke in the ancient prayer called the “Sequence of the Holy Spirit”.
In fact, all of us have received the Holy Spirit in the sacraments and therefore, we have received these gifts too. Let’s
ask the Holy Spirit to help us to use those gifts to help our families, our neighbors and others, to know about Jesus
and his love.

En nuestra sociedad hay algunas personas religiosas o “de Iglesia” que hablan de la oración, la presencia de Dios en
nuestras vidas, y nuestros talentos. Y cuando se habla de talentos, siempre los relacionamos con acciones que
podemos realizar en favor de otros desde el punto de vista religioso. Eso lo conocemos en la Iglesia como Dones de
Espíritu Santo.
Cuáles son sus talentos? Esta pregunta puede aparecer constantemente en nuestro proyecto de vida, pero aún más en
nuestro camino espiritual mientras seguimos a Jesús, mientras avanzamos hacia el cielo haciendo la voluntad de
Dios. No podemos decir que no tenemos talentos, porque Dios siempre nos da un Talento, un Don, pero tenemos
descubrirlo.
En las lecturas este fin de semana, escuchamos en la primera lectura como Dios dio el Espíritu a setenta hombres
ancianos para que fuesen a anunciar su amor y a guiar el pueblo de Israel. De la misma manera, Dios nos da el
Espíritu Santo a través de los sacramentos de Bautismo y la confirmación. Obtener la presencia del Espíritu Santo
en nuestras vidas, en nuestro corazón, trae consigo algo especial que es conocido como Dones del Espíritu Santo y
tenemos que orar cada dia para conservarlos en nuestro corazón.
Según el papa Francisco, “el Espíritu mismo es el don de Dios, por excelencia es un regalo de Dios, y, a su vez,
comunica diversos dones espirituales a quien lo acoge. La Iglesia enumera siete, sabiduría, inteligencia, consejo,
fortaleza, ciencia, piedad y temor de Dios. son los que se aprenden cuando uno se prepara al sacramento de la
Confirmación. El número siete simbólicamente significa plenitud, totalidad.
En conclusión, todos nosotros hemos recibido el Espíritu Santo en nuestros corazones y hemos recibido dones y
talentos; por tanto, estamos invitados a pedirle al Espíritu Santo que nos ayude a usar esos Dones para ayudar nuestra
familia, nuestros vecinos y otros a conocer a Jesús y el amor que él nos brinda.
