Solemnity of the Immaculate Concep-tion of the Blessed Virgin Mary
This coming Friday , December 8th, will be a Holy Day of Obligation! (Please check the Mass schedule)
The Immaculate Conception refers to Our Lady, who was born free from orig-inal sin through the merits of her Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ..
The Church has held this belief from ancient times. However, this belief did not become a dogma until 1854 under Pope Pius IX. (Ineffabilis Deus.) The painting (left) of the Immaculate Con-ception is by Peter Paul Reubens and was completed in 1628. “O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Vir-gin Mary, didst prepare a worthy dwelling place for thy Son, we beseech thee that, as by the foreseen death of this, thy Son, thou didst preserve her from all stain, so too thou wouldst per-mit us, purified through her intercession, to come unto thee. Through the same Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who livest and reignest with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, world without end.” Amen.
