!Park School Campus Notes / Activities
March 1, 2013 !!!!!!!!! Support a Park Student through the Make-A-Wish Foundation: The Make-A-Wish Foundation is making a Park Campus Students wish of visiting a Disney theme park a reality. You can help support her and the Make-A-Wish foundation by eating at Panera Bread on Monday, March 4th, during their Make-A-Wish Mondays campaign. Just bring in the attached flyer and 10-20% of all qualifying sales will be donated to Make-A-Wish Illinois. Dont forget the flyer and check out the students story below. Sophie is a bubbly and sweet seven-year-old girl who lives with her parents and three sisters in Round Lake, IL. Sophie is most happy when she is playing in her backyard, swimming, riding her bike or dancing. She likes to snack on popcorn, and her favorite color is blue. In January 2009, Sophie was diagnosed with refractory epilepsy, where she is drug resistant and thus her epilepsy is harder to control. Due to the drug resistance, Sophie had a VNS (Vegas nerve stimulator) implanted in July of 2012. Despite her struggles, Sophie remains a loving little girl that brings happiness to those who know her. When asked to wish BIG, Sophie revealed her most heartfelt wish is to go to a theme park! This spring, Sophie and her family will fly to Florida where top of Sophies list is to meet as many beautiful princesses as possible. !Kindergarten Registration for the 2013-2014 School Year: It's kindergarten registration time for children who will be 5 years of age on or before September 1st, 2013! Pond Safety Announcement: We have numerous ponds/retention ponds in our subdivisions and neighborhoods. All students need to be reminded that they must stay off the slowly forming ice. The ponds are not meant for any winter activities. Thank you for your assistance. Camp Invention: The Camp Invention program is a weeklong adventure in creativity that immerses children entering grades one through six in exciting, hands-on learning disguised as fun activities. This summer, children will become expedition trainees, navigating their way to special treasure-filled caches and creating solutions to challenges posed by youth from around the world. They will be embarking on a global adventure, uncovering hidden messages from the Earth investigating several extreme natural wonders of the world and building a device to launch international ducks back home. The program will be held at Prairieview School from July 8th-July 11th. Register before March 28th to receive $25.00 off the base price! Register online to receive an extra $5.00 off! Call 800.968.4332 or visit www.campinvention.org to register. Please contact Julie Mayer at [email protected] or (847) 543-5752 if you have any questions. !The Illinois 5Essentials Survey: During February and March, CCSD 46 will join the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in providing a unique opportunity for teachers, students, and parents across the state to have a role in improving their schools. Between February 1 and the end of March 2013, teachers, students (Grades 6-8) and parents will be asked to take a 15-minute research-based survey to help identify strengths and weaknesses in their schools climate and learning conditions. Parents may complete the Illinois 5Essentials Survey online at https://illinois.5-essentials.org. !PTO Meeting Vote to Amend PTO Constitution: Please join us at the PTO meeting on Tuesday, March 12th at 4pm in the Media Center. A vote to amend the PTO constitution and by-laws will take place at this meeting. In order to better serve Park Campus staff and families, proposed changes to the current by-laws will include expansion, clarification, or revision of the following issues: officer/chairperson duties, number/type of positions available on the Board, terms of office, financial policies and procedures, process for removal of officers/chairpeople, and the election process. All parents, guardians, and Park staff are invited to attend. We hope to see you all there! !Park Campus Musical School House Rock (This Weekend): Join us Friday and Saturday evening at 7pm for the Park Campus rendition of School House Rock. Students have been working hard to prepare for the performance and are hoping to see you there.!!Arrival & Dismissal at Park Campus: Winter weather makes for more traffic and a longer commute. While we understand the traffic can be frustrating, we need all students and parents to follow the arrival and dismissal procedures. Students can only be dropped off and picked up in the south (K-4) and west (5-8 and younger siblings) parking lots. Orange cones have been set up to
-
direct cars in to the two-lane circle drive. If you need to park, please pull through the circle drive to get in to the parking lot. Handicap spots need to be saved for cars with the appropriate tags. Cars will not be permitted to sit in the lanes blocking traffic and students will not be permitted to cross in to the lot unless accompanied by an adult. These procedures are put in place to keep all students safe. When all parents follow the procedures, the process goes quicker and all students are kept out of harms way. Dear Parent or Guardian:
We will be giving your child state-required achievement tests March 4 March 15. Students in grades
4 and 7 will be tested in reading, mathematics, and science. Students in grades 3, 5, 6, and 8 will be
tested in reading and mathematics. The tests are a part of the Illinois Standards Achievement Test
(ISAT) program, and are being given to all eligible students. The results of reading, mathematics, and
science state tests will be reported to you on the School Report Card in the fall. We will review state
test results along with other information to help us improve our school program. In addition, you will
receive information about your childs performance on the state tests he or she took.
You can help your child do his or her best on the test by:
1. Making sure, if possible, that your child attends school on the days of testing
2. Making sure you child gets a good nights sleep the evening prior to testing
3. Providing breakfast on the mornings of testing
4. Reminding your child to ask the teacher questions if he or she does not understand the test
directions
5. Letting your child know that you have confidence in his or her ability to do his or her best
6. Advising your child not to worry about the test, but just to do his or her best
We look forward to sharing the ISAT results with you this fall.
Sincerely,
Ellen Correll, Superintendent
