LESSONS LEARNED

Face to face meetings allow to build confidence and facilitate exchange of

good practice amongst operators;

Knowing the concerns of operators is important to find proper solutions;

Operators welcome flexibility to find their own way of tracking risks;

More efficient interface with regulatory authorities;

Operators risk assessments of SMS’s are helpful to clarify the role of the

authorities in SSP implementation;

Need to establish a safety “ranking” regarding to CAT Operators.

WHAT WE WILL GONNA CHECK IN NEAR TERM

SMS REQUIREMENTS:

STATES SHALL REQUIRE, AS PART OF THEIR STATE SAFETY PROGRAMME (SSP),

THAT A SERVICE PROVIDER IMPLEMENTS A SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (SMS)

ACCEPTABLE TO THE STATE THAT, AS A MINIMUM:

a) IDENTIFIES SAFETY HAZARDS;

b) ENSURES THAT REMEDIAL ACTION (CAP) NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN SAFETY

PERFORMANCE IS IMPLEMENTED;

c) PROVIDES FOR CONTINUOUS MONITORING AND REGULAR ASSESSMENT OF THE

SAFETY PERFORMANCE; AND

d) AIMS AT A CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT OF THE OVERALL PERFORMANCE OF

THE SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.
