PRICING TIERSPUBLIC Non-partner community residents.

RESIDENTS Families living south of Fish Creek Park and west of the Bow River receive a minimum 5% discount. Rate applies to members living in our partner communities w/o their community association membership cards.

MEMBERS Members of SFCRA Partner Community Associations receive a minimum 10% discount upon proof of community association membership.

Registration deadlines for each session are one week prior to the course start date. In order to guarantee your spot we strongly recommend signing up early! Classes fill up quickly and in an effort to keep our instructor/student ratios low we do limit registration numbers in each class. Late registrations will be accepted provided there is space available in the class. We reserve the right to cancel classes if minimum numbers are not met by the registration deadline. Member rates are available for the following community associations: Millrise, Midnapore, Somerset/Bridlewood, Silverarado, Sundance, Shawnessy, Evergreen, Shawnee, and Chaparral. Multiple program and/or multiple family member registrations will receive a 10% discount if registered before the registration deadline.

REFUND POLICY Refunds requested up to one week prior to the start of the program will receive a full refund. For cancellations within 7 days of the program start date OR if the program has started, refunds will only be issued for medical reasons and will require a doctor’s note before the refund is processed.

The refund amount will be pro-rated based upon the number of classes remaining in the program. All refunds requested after the registration deadline, regardless of reason, are subject to a $10 administration fee.

PLEASE NOTE: There will be a $25 fee charged on all NSF cheques posted to SFCRA. All payments to be made to SFCRA.

PLEASE NOTE: Joint programs run by outside providers will not be eligible for the discounts offered for Cardel Rec South-run programs.

South Fish Creek Recreation Association (SFCRA) is a not for profit charitable organization that manages and operates Cardel Rec South. Payments due at time of registration. ART SAMPLERParticipants in this class will be encouraged to reveal their unique artistic abilities as they explore a variety of art mediums. Experiment with drawing, painting, clay and more! Basic fundamentals of art will be taught, with the opportunity for individual self-expression and imagination. All supplies are included. Dress to get messy!

DRAMA CLUB Participants will learn the basics of theatre in a fun, safe and encouraging environment by engaging in many drama games and activities. Improvisation, movement, voice, characterization, storytelling and more will be explored. Drama Club is a great place to meet new friends, practice teamwork, explore self-expression and develop confidence.

INTRODUCTORY DANCEFor those energetic and curious children, we combine Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop and much more in this introductory dance class! Our qualified instructor will introduce your child to the world of dance using games, popular music and fun dance combinations.

ART SAMPLER FOR ADULTS2D ART SAMPLER Discover new ways to express your creativity with pastels, watercolours, acrylics, and suminagashi paper marbling. A variety of techniques are introduced each week, followed by the opportunity to create compositions of your choice.

3D ART SAMPLER Explore and create three-dimensional art with glass fusion, clay hand building, sculpture, and textural acrylic painting. Introduction and instruction with each medium is followed by time for individual creative expression each week.

CREATIVE WRITING CLUBThis fun and engaging class will focus on individual student interests and developmental levels. Styles of writing that might be explored include: poetry, songs, short stories, comics, advertisements, articles and more. Various activities will help the students learn about the writing process and guide them to brainstorm, pick an idea, develop structure, make their voice heard, expand their vocabulary and edit their work.

YOUTH BADMINTONWhether you are just getting started or have played in the past, this class is for you. Classes will feature an introduction of rules, racquet and shot development as well as strategic playing. Each class allows participants to put their practice into action through game play. Racquets are available, but participants are welcome to bring their own. Shuttles will be provided.

UN POCO DE ESPAÑOL SPANISH FOR TRAVELERSAre you traveling to a Spanish-speaking country? Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to communicate with locals in their own language? Learn the basics to survive your trip in a fun environment. By recreating real life situations you will learn greetings, forms of courtesy, how to express likes and dislikes, what you want and don’t want, ask for directions, order your meals and express feelings and discomforts. ADULT BADMINTON

AIKIDOAikido is a non-competitive traditional Japanese martial art. Students work in partners or small groups taking advantage of a nurturing yet challenging learning environment. Advancement is through a coloured belt ranking system beginning with yellow belt, moving toward black belt. Course objectives include: demonstrating respect, having good manners, showing discipline and having fun.

NOTE: New students will have the opportunity to take the first test (yellow belt) within the first session. The cost of this test is $40. Subsequent tests, for returning students are $25. Uniforms are not necessary; loose fitting comfortable clothing is all that’s needed. (Sweatpants, t-shirts and bare feet) However, uniforms can be purchased from the instructor if desired.

MUNCHKIN & ME LEARN TO SKATE (PARENTED)Join your child on the ice for lots of fun, games, and basic skating instruction in a group format. Classes are designed to introduce and help younger skaters learn the basic fundamentals of skating including: the proper technique for falling down and getting up, balance, marching, one-foot scraping (introduction to stopping), gliding and turning on the spot. Our qualified instructors will use a variety of games and teaching tools to make this a fun, safe and educational experience for participants.

NOTE: Mandatory equipment includes: a CSA approved hockey helmet (no bicycle helmets), skates, mittens and waterproof pants. A parent/guardian must accompany each child.

BEGINNER LEARN TO SKATE LESSONSThese un-parented classes will provide basic skating instruction in a group format. Classes are designed to teach and help skaters master the basic fundamentals of skating including: stopping, gliding, backwards skating, turning, as well as the proper technique for falling down and getting up. Our qualified instructors will use a variety of games and teaching tools to make this a fun, safe and educational experience for participants.

NOTE: Mandatory equipment includes: a CSA approved hockey helmet (no bicycle helmets), skates, mittens and waterproof pants. All skills must be performed accurately, consistently and confidently to advance to the next level.

BEGINNER LEVEL 1No previous skating experience required. Skater is unable to stand and move on their own. To advance to level 2, skater must be able to get up by themselves, march half the width of ice and scrape.

ADULT LEARN TO SKATE

LEARN TO FIGURE SKATESkaters will learn proper skating technique, turns, spins, jumps, etc. Each skater will learn at their own pace in a fun, safe environment. Please wear comfortable clothing you can stretch in.

NOTE: Participants must be able to skate forwards and backwards and stop comfortably. Gliding on one foot is also and asset. Figure skates with a toe pick and a hockey helmet are mandatory. Prerequesite for this course is to have passed intermidiate 1 or equivalent.

INTRODUCTORY HOCKEYThis is a non-competitive introduction to hockey. Each 45-minute class will include a warm-up plus skill development using drills and games. Participants will be introduced to scrimmages in a non-competitive environment.

NOTE: Previous skating experience is mandatory; participants should be comfortable skating forwards, backwards and stopping. Both boys and girls are welcome. RECREATIONAL HOCKEYThis non-competitive program is a fun alternative to minor hockey. No previous hockey experience is necessary. Each 55-minute class will involve a warm-up, skill development using drills and games, as well as a scrimmage all occurring in a non-competitive environment. Participants will be split into groups on ice based upon ability levels.

LADIES LEARN TO PLAY HOCKEYHave you always wanted to play hockey, but don’t know where to begin? We have the program for you! Join our qualified instructors as they lead you through hockey-related skills and drills such as balance, developing your stride, stopping, puck-handling in a fun, safe and encouraging environment.

NOTE: Our program is designed for women that already know how to skate but haven’t skated in a hockey setting. Full gear is required: CSA-approved hockey helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey pants, shin pads, skates, jersey, socks, gloves, skates and a stick.

ADULT DROP-IN EVENING SHINNYOur adult evening shinny program offers an alternative to league play. Each week players come out, form teams and enjoy an evening of contact-free hockey. Full equipment including a CSA approved helmetis required, and no slap shots or body contact is allowed. Goalies play for free, and are also asked to register online. We anticipate player numbers and goalies to be much more accurate with this format.

PHOTOGRAPHYDo you like taking pictures? If you own a digital SLR and want to learn how to use your camera better this is the class for you! Come and learn the fundamentals of photography including exposure, composition and how to creatively use your camera’s different shooting modes. Stop taking snap-shots and start creating images with impact.

Join Chenoa, of Let There Be Light Photography (lettherebelightphotography.com) for a hands-on learning experience with real photo shoots, weekly assignments and lots of instructor feedback. Level 1 must be completed before advancing to level 2.

HOME SCHOOL DRAMA This is your chance to enter a world of imagination and pretend. Students will gain instruction in fundamental acting skills, including improvisation and script work. The class also explores techniques such as voice projection, articulation, imaginative thought, expressing emotions, body language and listening. Parents and friends are invited to join us on the last day of the session for a final performance, where these budding actors and actresses can show you what they’ve learned!

CREATIVE WRITINGParticipants will be coached through the writing process in a fun, safe and encouraging environment. The students will work on developing their own voice, and strengthening their writing skills. This fun and engaging class will focus on individual student interests and developmental levels. Styles of writing that might be explored include: poetry, songs, short stories, comics, advertisements, articles and more. Fun and engaging activities will help the students learn about the writing process and guide them to brainstorm, pick an idea, develop structure, make their voice heard, expand their vocabulary, choose appropriate words and revise and edit their work. Music, Art, Drama and Literature will be infused to help spark their amazing imaginations. The students will work towards producing a good copy of their favourite piece of writing, along with framed artwork, so they may take it home and hang it up proudly.

FRENCHBonjour! Comment allez-vous? Join us as we learn the basics of Canada’s second official language! Basic French vocabulary, grammar, verb conjugation and pronunciation will be explored through songs, games, and other fun activities. This class will include basic written skills, as well as verbal skills – students will learn greetings, simple questions, phrases, and sentences that can be translated into everyday life. As students advance, further vocabulary and different focuses will be introduced to allow students to continue learning the language. Daily practice is encouraged when learning another language. There may be additional homework assignments each week to aid practice.

SPANISH¡Hola! – This program is designed for homeschoolers to learn their first words in Spanish through fun and varied activities. As they advance to the different levels they will broaden their knowledge of Spanish by increasing their vocabulary, the use of verbs and Spanish structures will enable them to communicate in a simple way. Each session will include a different focus, for children wanting to take multiple sessions.

Aikido is practiced in a non-competitive manner, which merges effective self-defense technique with a mind set on peace.
