2.3 The BCBE and BCEE racks

The dimensions of the BCBE and BCEE racks are the following (see also thefigure below):

The dimensions of the BCBE and BCEE rack frames are (height x width xdepth): 1880 x 600 x 450 mm (6.17 ft. x 1.97 ft. x 1.47 ft.)

The height of the rack footing (50 mm, or 2 in) and the top frame structure(90 mm, or 3.55 in) must be added to the height dimension. Note that in theraised floor installations the height of the rack footing can be set lower than50 mm, up to 25 mm (1 in).

The final depth dimension of the rack is obtained by adding the doordimensions 25 + 25 mm to the frame dimension. For example 450 + 50 =500 mm (17.7 in + 2.0 in = 19.7 in).

A: In the raised floor installations the power cable conduit CC19V andcable rack R2A1 at the ends of the rack rows increase the width of the rowby 140 + 200 mm. For example in tworack installation (in the figurebelow) 1280 mm + 140 +200 = 1620 mm (53.55 in + 5.51 in + 7.87 in =66.93 in).

B: The side plates of the ends of the rack rows increase the width of the rowby 40 + 40 mm. For example 1200 + 80 = 1280 mm (50.4 in + 3.15 in =53.55 in).DN9815167 Nokia Corporation 23 (130)Issue 7-0 en Nokia Proprietary and Confidential

  • Interconnection cabling3 Interconnection cablingAbout this chapter

This chapter describes the positions and routing of the cabling located inside theBSC racks. The cables are prefabricated and installed to their proper places at thefactory.

    3.1 Introduction

Interconnection cables are used for cabling between the cartridges and racks ofthe BSC. The cables are prefabricated to the appropriate length and haveconnectors at both ends. For one-rack configurations, they are installedcompletely at the factory. For two-rack configurations (BCBE and BCEE), thecables connecting these two racks are partially installed at the factory, with oneend mounted on the connectors of the extension rack (BCEE) and the other leftunconnected.

The cables should be placed so that there are no sharp edges and so that they arenot pulled too tight. Place them evenly in the supporters behind the racks, so thatthey will not hamper the installation of the back doors and their girders later.

    3.2 Internal cabling examples

The Interconnection Cables cables document lists all internal cables of the DX200 BSC (See table 7Example of an interconnection cables list.) . Each cable hasan individual number. This number and the location of both ends of the cable aregiven. Both the name of the functional entity to which the end of the cableconnects to and its co-ordinate are given in a table. The table has nine columnswhich contain the following information:

The first column (No.) shows the identification number of the cable. Bothends of the cable are marked with a label with this number on it.

The second column (RACK) shows the name of the rack where the first endof the cable is connected.DN9815167 Nokia Corporation 25 (130)Issue 7-0 en Nokia Proprietary and Confidential

  • Installation of the BSC2 and BSC(2)i

The third column (FE) shows the name of the Functional Entity where thefirst end of the cable is connected. The fourth column shows the co-ordinate of the connector where the firstend of the cable is connected. The structure of the co-ordinate is explainedin the section below.

The fifth, sixth and seventh columns show the same information about theother end of the cable as the second, third and fourth columns.

The eighth column shows the type number of the cable. The type of thecable and connectors are coded in the first three letters and the length of thecable is shown in the following three numbers. The length is given incentimetres if there is a letter C after the three numbers and in decimetresif there is no letter after the three numbers.

The ninth column shows the use of the cable.

    Structure of the co-ordinate

The co-ordinate is a group of eight, nine or ten digits, which are divided into threesubgroups:

The first subgroup is a vertical co-ordinate of three numbers. It shows the heightof the functional entity in the rack. Eight different heights are used in the BSC.Six of these are used for shelves where cartridges are located and two for powerdistribution units at the top of the rack. Vertical co-ordinates and their meaningsare explained in the following table:

The second subgroup is a horizontal co-ordinate of two numbers and one letter. The two numbers indicate the horizontal position of the functional entity on theshelf and the letter shows whether the connector where the cable will beconnected is located in the back (B) or in the front (F) of the subrack. Thehorizontal co-ordinates used in the BSC are:

Table 6. Co-ordinates and their meanings.

    Co-ordinate Meaning

    002 = the lowest shelf

030 = the second lowest shelf

058 = the third lowest shelf

088 = the second fourth lowest shelf

120 = the fifth lowest shelf

The third subgroup states the exact position of the connector, inside the functionalentity. The position is always marked on the functional entity by a label. Thenumber of digits in this subgroup depends on the type of the functional unit andthe use of the cable:

Two digits, the letter P and one number, are used for power distributionconnectors of PSFP.

Three digits, the letters PL and one number are used for power distributionconnectors in different cartridges for cables coming from PSFP.

Three or four digits, the letters LL and one or two numbers are used forconnectors for the power distribution cables between two cartridges.

Three digits, the numbers 01 and one number separated by a dash, are used foralarm connectors in PSFP and PSA20.

Four digits, two numbers and the letter R or S followed by one number, are usedfor all other connectors. The letter shows the vertical co-ordinate inside acartridge and the first two numbers show the horizontal co-ordinate inside acartridge. The last number states in which of the eight possible positions inside aEuroconnector the cable is located.

  • Equipping the racks with plug-in units

Plug-in units are identified according to the name code in the identification label(B), located on the front panel.Note

Install the power supply units (PSC), and the hard disk (WDU/HDU), DAT drive(CTU), and floppy disk (FDU) units. Special mounting adapters are used for thedisk units.

The other plug-in units are left unconnected (about 1 cm or 1/2 in from theconnectors) in this installation phase.

Use a grounded wrist band when installing the plug-in units!

4.6 Equipping the cartridges with plug-in units

The racks are equipped with plug-in units according to the Equipment Listincluded in the BSC Site Documents. The plug-in units to be installed are shownin the tables below.

4.6.1 Equipping the BCSUs and ETs

The number of BCSUs and ETs can be selected by the customer. The BCSUs areequipped in increasing order, starting from BCSU 0 as described in theEquipment List in the BSC Site Documents.

The ET2s must be equipped into the ET5C cartridge in the order shown in theEquipment List in the BSC Site Documents.

4.6.2 Connection from BSC to NMS

There are three alternative ways to design the X.25 connection from OMU to theNMS: one 64 kbit/s timeslot in one 2 Mbit/s G.703 PCM trunk at the A interface(between the BSC and the MSC), or an external packet network. When the 2Mbit/s G.703 option is used, an AS7-U, AS7-US or AS7-V unit provides theconnection. When the packet network option is used, an AC25-S unit provides theX.25 connection. There is also an option to have another X.25 link forredundancy. In case of LAN connection, a COCEN unit may be equipped in theOMU in the BSC and BSC2 application. In the BSCi and BSC2i applications theprocessor unit CP6LX is provided with a LAN interface (RJ45 connector at thefront panel). 4.6.3 Equipping the OMU and BCSUs with AS7 units

The BCSUs can be equipped with AS7-U, AS7-US, AS7-V or AS7-VA plug-inunits. All variants are applicable in most cases, but the AS7-US and AS7-VA arecompulsory in the ANSI environment (BSC2A, BSC2i) when the 7-bit signallingsystem CCS7 is used in the A interface (towards MSC). By default, the slot forthe AS7-U, AS7-US or AS7-V with CCS7 channels is number F05, but the usageof the AS7 units can be freely defined by the user. The slots F06, F07 and F08(BSC2) accept all variants AS7-U, AS7-US, AS7-V or AS7-VA plug-in unitsdepending on the application as shown in the table below.

    The OMU can be equipped with the required AS7-U (BSCE, BSC2E), AS7-US(BSC2A, BSC2i), AS7-V (BSCi, BSC2i) or AS7-VA (BSCi, BSC2i) plug-inunits.

  • Cabling to environment5 Cabling to environmentAbout this chapter

This chapter describes the positions and routing of the external cabling inside theBSC racks, i.e. cabling from rack to environment, usually through the datadistribution frame (DDF). More information on cabling is available in theEngineering Description of the BSC manual.

    5.1 Introduction

The station (outgoing external) cables include:

Trunk cables which are connected to the front connectors of the ET2 plug-in units, with the other end connected to the digital distribution frame(DDF)

Alarm cables from the HWAT front panel connector

External synchronization cable(s), at the rear of the CLOC cartridge Peripheral cables (RS 232) from the panels CDB2 or CDB8 LAN (Ethernet) cable from the COCEN, whose connector may be of type:

15-contact D connector, coaxial 50-ohm BNC connector, or RJ45connector (TPI) in BSC, BSC2E and BSC2A applications

LAN (Ethernet) cable, RJ45 connector at the CP6LX front panel in BSCiand BSC2i applications

Cables for X.25 connections (NMS - BSC) from the AC25-S front panelconnector:

    - V.35 cable from BSC to Modem- V.35 cable from BSC to NMS- X.21 cable from BSC to Modem- V.24 cable from BSC to ModemDN9815167 Nokia Corporation 77 (130)Issue 7-0 en Nokia Proprietary and Confidential

  • Installation of the BSC2 and BSC(2)i

Power distribution cables from the power plant to the BSC racks (seeInstallation of Rack-Cartridge Mechanics) Grounding cable for the racks (see Installation of Rack - CartridgeMechanics)

The outgoing E1 and T1 (PCM) and alarm cables are delivered either as cut-to-length cables complete with connectors, or as cable materials for assembly onsite. The cables are connected in the BSC to the connector in the front panel ofthe plug-in units. The other ends of the E1 and T1 trunk cables are not providedwith connectors, as they are connected to the distribution frame. The peripheralcables are delivered cut-to-length and provided with connectors as required. Thecables run as shown in the figures below.

The cables from the cartridges on the right run via the rack on the right side andthe cables from the cartridges on the left run on the left side of the rack. If thereis the side plate of the rack row end only, on the right side, then the cables runbetween the side plate and the frame beam in the rear of the rack.

5.2 Grounding the cables to environment

The sheaths of all external station cables (E1/T1 trunk cables, alarm cables, VDUand printer cables, and X.25 cables to NMS) must be grounded at groundingelements (combs) when they leave/enter the rack. The grounding unit is locatedat the top of the rack, or at the bottom of an adjacent cable rack if the room has araised floor. See the Installation of Rack - Cartridge Mechanics manual for moredetailed grounding (earthing) instructions.

5.3 Cables under the raised floor

If the equipment premises have an raised floor and the cables are drawn under thefloor, the power supply cables are routed through the cable conduit CC19V andthe other cables through the cable rack R2A1-S. The power supply cables are notgrounded in any way and they are connected to the power connector at the top ofthe rack. The cables routed out of a rack and to the environment through the cablerack (R2A1-S) must be grounded at the grounding element located at the bottomof the cable rack.

5.4 Routing of external cables to environment

Figures below show the general routing principles according to which the cablesare connected to the front connectors of the plug-in units. The cables are drawnout of the rack through the grounding element +located at the top of the same rackor in the cable rack (R2A1-S).78 (130) Nokia Corporation DN9815167Nokia Proprietary and Confidential Issue 7-0en
