Thank you to everyone who donated candy for the 4-H Halloween Candy Drive for the
Military. We collected and sent about 285 pounds of candy. The SYC sponsored the Halloween Candy Drive at the local schools. The successful candy drive was a fun and creative way to show
support of our military troops. In addition to the candy some students created cards and drawings to thank the soldiers for their service. The candy and cards raised during the drive were donated to
our military troops through Pepin County 4-H Teen Leaders and Operation Gratitude.

Pepin County 4-H Conducts Award Trip Interviews
In order to be selected as a representative on select 4-H award trips, high school aged Pepin County
4-H members need to go through steps similar to applying for a job. These workforce readiness
skills include developing a cover letter and personal resume, obtaining two non-related adult
recommendations and participating in an interview conducted by Pepin County 4-H Parent/Leader
Federation members.
4-H award trip interviews not only provide a means to determine scholarship distribution to the
applicants but as a lifelong learning skill. Interviews provide an avenue for youth to receive
constructive feedback in a low-stress environment. The exercises can help the participants boost
their confidence as well as reduce anxiety about future interviewing situations. Students establish
their skills of interviewing preparation, answering questions about themselves in a timely matter,
acceptable body language, as well as developing insightful responses to interview ques-
tions. interviews are not only a great way to calm their nerves, but they can also give them guidance,
which can help these members through their next job interview.
Pepin County 4-H is proud to congratulate and announce eleven 4-H Teen Leaders have been
awarded the opportunity to represent Pepin County 4-H while traveling on leadership trips
throughout the United States.

This past weekend Durand Dazzle Days was held in Memorial Park along with the HOHOHO Expo at the Durand High School. The Expo is a large craft and vendor fair for people to start their holiday shopping. Santa and Mrs. Claus were on hand for kids to come and tell him their Christmas wish and have their photo taken with him. Their was a long line for that as kids were eager to chat with Santa in hopes they would find their most wanted gift under the tree come Christmas morning. New this year was a booth for face painting and that is always a hit with the kids. Our 4-H club held our annual fund raising bake sale too. We try to have a wide variety of cookies along with rosettes and everything is put on holiday glass platters, dishes and tins. Two club members, Lauren and Stephanie, were selling handmade items to raise money to help pay for 4-H trips. Lauren has been sewing up a storm making pillowcases and tying up fleece tie blankets. Stephanie and her Mom have been making Christmas craft decorations. There was a huge turnout of community members coming to shop at the Expo probably due to the beautiful weather we had that day. By the end of the day there was slim pickings for cookies as most of our trays had sold. Our club would like to "Thank" every-one that came out shopping and supported our 4-H club and the community by starting their holiday shopping at the HOHOHO Expo. Hope to see you again next year!
