Update of Recent/Ongoing Activities

In addition to the previously listed activities associated with the profession of athletic training, the following is a description of Phil Hossler’s recent involvement and accomplishments.

2006 – lead author of Getting A-Head- educating the scholastic athlete’s neighborhood. This text details how persons in the concussed student athlete’s “neighborhood” can assist in providing health care. 2010 – creator of unique educational poster entitled Player’s Contract with the Team. This full sized poster details several important health care points in a “contract” format so that team members can sign the contract demonstrating their commitment to safety, health, sportsmanship and to each other which hangs in the locker room for the entire season. 2009 – finished 6-year term as officer/president of 6,000 member Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association 2009 – contributed the chapter entitled “First Aid and Safety Concerns” in NASPE’s text Principles of Safety in Physical Education and Sport. Phil has contributed a chapter in all four editions of this text since 1987.

2010 – initiated an IRB level research survey entitled New Jersey Coaches’ Concussion Knowledge. Web based survey instrument to be sent to athletic directors and coaches throughout the state. This study is currently underway. 2010 – lead author of text entitled Concussion Policy Construction Guide for Schools which is a manual written to assist school districts in the creation and implementation of their concussion policy. 2010 – co-author of 2006 IRB level research study entitled “ A Professional Learning Plan has Value in Guiding the Continuing Education of Athletic Trainers: A Pilot Study published in The Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice 1/10.
