2017Picasso Project Year in Review
Picasso Project 2016-2017 was a remarkable school year
for PCCY’s Picasso Project. Through grants
to 14 Philadelphia public schools totaling
$61,674, over 3,500 students participated in
innovative arts projects across the city. This
transformative work was possible through
the collaboration of 57 teachers, 25 teaching
artists, 19 partner organizations, and nearly
1,100 hours of volunteer service.
Since its inception in 2002, Picasso Project’s
grant program has provided access to
arts education for over 40,750 students
in under-resourced Philadelphia public
schools. These projects serve as catalysts
for the development of arts programs and
integration of arts into the wider school
curriculum. At the same time, the projects
engage students and teachers in advocacy
for equitable arts education funding, so
future generations of students can express
themselves through art at school.
Picasso Project Awards CeremonyThe 2017 Picasso Project season kicked off with a lively celebration in Philadelphia City Hall on February 22nd. The event featured student performances, remarks by Mayor Kenney and Superintendent Hite, and the presentation of grant awards.
