Welcome to the new look FLUID Magazine, we trust that you will enjoy everything it has to offer.

We will be bringing you some more specific, localised content throughout the course of the magazine which we’re sure you will be able to derive benefit from.

The first six months of the year have led to a number of changes within the PIRTEK system. Most notably has been the acquisition of PIRTEK USA’s master franchise by the Australian parent company - Duncan Family Investments.

The North American market has been identified as a huge area of growth and the focus in the coming 12-24 months will be to expand on the 52 franchises that are currently held in the US and penetrate some new markets with the PIRTEK system. Glenn Duncan has been overseeing things in the US in conjunction with US Franchising Manager, Gwyn O’Kane and Morgan Arundel, the President of PIRTEK USA.

It is an exciting time in that part of the world and with an aggressive approach to the business no doubt you will hear more about PIRTEK and the activities in the USA.

FLUID: Glenn to start with, some exciting times for the entire PIRTEK Group.

Without question it is. There has been a lot going on over the last six months and I think we’re in a great position for growth. The US acquisition has been the core for me - which I think gives us a wonderful platform to work from, but also in a general sense we’ve been reviewing practices and looking to streamline many of our processes.

What was the reasoning behind the US acquisition?

The most important thing I guess for us is the ability to broaden our customer base in the biggest consumer market in the world. PIRTEK is a unique business in the United States and unique from a franchising model also. By bringing USA back into the group, it gives us corporate stability as well as the ability to set long term objectives with that market share behind us.

Will there be any major changes noticeable as a result of the acquisition of PIRTEK USA?

For the meantime, no. President Morgan Arundel has agreed to stay on in his role for a period of

two years from the acquisition (February), Gwyn O’Kane who has been with the organization a long time on the franchising front stays in place - all of those elements remain to ensure a smooth transition to our customers and franchise base, who of course are vital to the success of the business.

What are the key aims for PIRTEK USA in the coming months?

Growth of our franchise base and market share. We are already investigating a number of new markets where we can take the PIRTEK model and apply it. For us, we have the ability to grow exponentially in the US market that we may not have in Australia (from a franchising perspective). Transport throughout the US is huge, mining and oil are showing growth, so those are the key areas that we’re looking at right now, also the population bases to back up the business. Since the start of the year we’ve opened three new franchises, so we’re sitting at 52 and will expand into south Florida by the end of the year and hopefully will have a few more announcements in a number of exciting cities over the coming months.

Synergistically, the USA acquisition makes a great deal of sense…

It does. It brings USA into line with what we’re doing in Australia, New Zealand, Mongolia and South Africa and gives us a platform for expansion into Canada. Each market is different, but by applying the same principles to our business in each market, we can achieve success. There is also a process of learning and adapting. Some of the strategies and processes we have in the US can be applied to our Australian market, equally some of the processes we have in Australia can be applied to the US.

Does it corporately change the thinking?

At head office, in some senses yes - we have to have a more ‘global’ outlook to what we’re doing but at franchise level in each market - no. The pillars that PIRTEK has been built on since 1980 are still the same - high levels of customer service at the local level, but with global support remain exactly as they have been. At franchise level, we don’t expect our franchisees or customers to see too much of a difference aside from us working better to service them with the

products and support needed to service their customers in a better way with more efficiencies.

You recently had a chance to go to New Zealand - what are your thoughts on the market there?

New Zealand is tracking well for PIRTEK. We have 20 franchises there and it is growing all the time. Chris Bourke and his team on the ground are doing a terrific job. Stephen (Dutton) and I went over to their annual conference and gala and had a great time. They have a wonderful, well connected group of franchisees who are enthusiastic about the brand. PIRTEK New Zealand has a great relationship with the New Zealand Rugby League as its naming rights partner for the National Team and it works really well for PIRTEK both on the ground in New Zealand in terms of connecting with the community and our customer base, but also in Australia - those games get a huge amount of exposure in Australia, so there’s a definite crossover there.

In Australia, the market has presented some challenges therefore some different thinking - is that a fair assumption?

In some respects yes. The Australian market has become a little tougher for PIRTEK meaning that we have to be smarter about who we attract to the business in

a customer sense. The product range many of our customers and franchisees will have noticed has expanded over recent times and we’re always investigating new products that can bring us new customers that may not have considered PIRTEK as an outlet - particularly in the areas of automotive, marine and the like. We’ve welcomed a new marketing team on-board to look at what we’re doing and how we’re going about our business, the two guys, Mark Devitt and David Ciantar

have a wealth of knowledge in the franchising and industrial arena and the areas they have identified and changes that they will be making will become evident in the back six months of 2015. They are being backed up by my daughter Antonia, who comes to us as the third generation Duncan family member to be part of our team, which is incredibly exciting. We are looking forward to the challenges that we’re facing, knowing that we have a good team, great customers and a brilliant franchise base behind us and supporting us.

PLANNING FOR THE FUTUREPIRTEK MIDLAND

Franchisee's Michael Roberts and Bradley Scott have a long history with Pirtek. Bradley began his career at 16 years old with Pirtek Welshpool in 1988. In 1992, Michael, a qualified panel beater with a passion for vintage cars then joined at 21 years old

The pair worked there until early 2000 when they accepted and opportunity to become contractors carrying out hydraulic attachment and circuitry installations.

In 2007, Michael and Bradley saw an opportunity for a new Pirtek Service centre in the Midland area and a proposal was presented to PFS.

Later that year, Pirtek Midland was born and operations began in November 2007 from 9 Bushby Street, Bellevue.

Pirtek Midland went on to be

'Franchise of the Year' finalists for WA/SA/NT in 2011 and 2013. In 2012 they won this award as well as a 'National Runner Up' award.

From the opening day a plan was in place to invest in the future of Pirtek Midland. A 2500sqm block of land in the neighbouring industrial area of Midvale was purchased and plans began for a world class Pirtek Service Centre which is now near completion.

The brand new Service Centre boasts 750sqm of workshop, 440sqm of office and showroom, wash bay facility for those really dirty jobs and 28 parking bays.

New services in the pipeline for Pirtek Midland include a testing facility and capability to supply the customer base with code hoses locally.

"Brad and I are very proud of the achievements of Pirtek Midland which has been made possible with the support of a great team, hard work and

the support of the Pirtek Network.

We are looking forward to a bright future in our new home."

On the eve of the NRL Telstra Premiership Finals Series, the PIRTEK-backed Brisbane Broncos are in the box seat to make a charge for yet another victory.

With Wayne Bennett back at the helm in 2015, the Broncos have fired and cannot be deposed from the top two on the ladder.

This guarantees them a pair of finals to be held at home at Suncorp Stadium, with no doubt a raucous Brisbane crowd cheering them on.

The season from the Broncos has been stellar to say the least. They have won 10 of their 12 matches at home and have lost just six as the season winds up.

The late season charge has been impressive - including a stirring victory against defending premiers, the South Sydney Rabbitohs - which

One of the more interesting parts of the 2015 V8 Supercars season has been the liveries displayed by DJR Team Penske. Practically every round has seen a new liveried car debuted, rotating through sponsors of the team and the brands under the Penske umbrella.

One constant has remained though, and that is the PIRTEK branding on the headlights.

The association that PIRTEK has with DJR Team Penske provides an outstanding platform to re-engage with V8 Supercars, but with a true business focus on what we do as well through a business-to-business relationship with Penske Transportation Group Global.

dramatically shortened the Broncos' odds of winning the Premiership.

Joining the PIRTEK-backed team in the Finals will be equal favourites, the Sydney Roosters, the Rabbitohs aiming to make it two from two, the impressive Sharks who have bounced back after a couple of lean seasons, the Cowboys looking for their first Title, former premiers Melbourne Storm, last year's runners up the Bulldogs and the Dragons.

PIRTEK wishes Wayne Bennett and the Broncos the best for the Premiership Charge.

All matches from the NRL Finals Series will be shown live on the Nine Network.

PIRTEK Executive Director, Glenn Duncan recently attended the Penske Racing Sponsor Summit at Penske’s sprawling headquarters in Mooresville, North Carolina.

The global gathering of Penske partners from around the world through its various racing

activities allowed Glenn the opportunity to gain insight into the Penske operation that races in key American series such as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the Verizon IndyCar Series. Penske Racing has also branched its operation to Australia - purchasing a major stake in the iconic Dick

PIRTEK joined forces with the Penske Racing/Dick Johnson Racing conglomerate - now known as DJR Team Penske at the back end of 2014.

Former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winner, Marcos Ambrose started the season with the DJRTP V8 Supercar squad as its flagship driver. PIRTEK has a long association with Ambrose having been the major sponsor on the car that he took to two V8 Supercar Championships.

The arrangement was built on the business-to-business opportunities that exist for PIRTEK in Australia with the rapidly expanding Penske Transportation Group Global in that market, however with the acquisition of the US Master Franchise by the Duncan family at the beginning of the year, that now has the potential to expand into the USA.

The Peter Duncan Neuroscience Unit at St Vincents Hospital in Sydney is continually lauded as the number one Neuroscience Research facility in Australia.

The focus of the Unit - named after PIRTEK co-founder, Peter Duncan - is to study adult stem cells and their role in causing and exacerbating neurological diseases, in the process searching to apply new neuroscience techniques for patients suffering from diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s, along with other neurological infections, as well as stroke.

Areas that include heavy logistics and distribution industries are being focused on.

Four new Service and Supply Centers have come online since the beginning of 2015, growing the PIRTEK footprint to 52 Centers.

The focus of the V8 Supercars field has switched into endurance mode, with the PIRTEK Enduro Cup set to begin next weekend (September 11-13) at the Wilson Security Sandown 500.

The third year of V8 Supercars’ Championship-within-a-Championship sees the 25 outfits vying for the Cup created by renowned Australian industrial artist, James Corbett which carries some 400 parts directly from the PIRTEK catalogue.

To date, the only squad that has taken the PIRTEK Enduro Cup home has been Queensland-based Red Bull Racing Australia - who have struck ominous form just at the right time with Jamie Whincup recording a Saturday race victory at the most recent V8 Supercars event in Sydney.

Current Driver and Team Championship leaders, Ford team, Prodrive Racing Australia will be looking to eclipse its arch-rival Holden squad as it chases its maiden Championship and PIRTEK Enduro Cup.

Whilst the leading Holden and Ford teams go in as the ones to

chase in this year’s PIRTEK Enduro Cup, there is no shortage of teams from both manufacturers as well as Volvo, Nissan and Erebus Motorsport that are keen to lure the PIRTEK-inspired trophy from Red Bull’s grasp.

Heading to Sandown, Triple Eight Race Engineering (RBRA) Team Principal Roland Dane surprised PIRTEK Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Dutton with a travel case for the trophy.

“It was a nice little side project for our fabrication department - which services more than just our race team,” said Dane. “When it travels, we wanted to make sure the PIRTEK Enduro Cup went securely and is presented well. We’d hope that it doesn’t stray too far from our workshop, but if it does, we want it to be maintained well until we take it back next year.

PIRTEK’s involvement in V8 Supercar racing stretches back to the late 1990s with Stone Bros Racing and continued through Marcos Ambrose’s Championship years. It made a return to the sport in 2013 with MOTOGP World Champion, Casey Stoner in his Dunlop Series endeavours.

“PIRTEK’s role in V8 Supercars as creators of the PIRTEK Enduro Cup and Official Hose Supplier to the category allows us to access a direct market for our products - whether that be from a team or fanbase perspective,” said Stephen Dutton.

“It shows the level of enthusiasm that Roland and his team have for the sport that they have taken the time as a side project to create this terrific case. Jamie (Whincup) and Craig (Lowndes) each have a PIRTEK Enduro Cup to their credit and the whole team is so keen on retaining it.

“The category is so competitive between all five manufacturers now that I think it will be a dogfight from Sandown to Bathurst and of course, to the Gold Coast at the end of October.

“PIRTEK is extremely proud to be a part of the V8 Supercars and naming rights sponsor of the PIRTEK Enduro Cup. The sport has been a key part of our business for many years and we know our franchisees and customers love the V8 Supercars and watch with interest every single event.”
